andysblog_jeffrey_320x240.jpgLove him or hate him, you gots to agree that Jeffrey Sebelia is one of the most upfront and outspoken designers in Runway history. I called him yesterday out of the blue to chat it up.

HEY MAN - WHAT ARE YOU DOING RIGHT NOW?

I'm just in LA looking at fabric at a vendor who gets a lot of stuff from Italy!

EVERYBODY READING THIS DOESN'T KNOW YET IF YOU ARE THE DECOY SHOWING AT FASHION WEEK OR IF YOU'RE STILL IN THE COMPETITION OR WHAT, BUT WE KNOW THAT YOU SHOWED - DID YOU HAVE FUN IN NYC?

I had a lot of fun. All of this was so much work every step of the way. I have fun working hard but the fun was really at the end of it getting to show at Bryant Park - that was the payoff.

A hard pressing interviewer you certainly are not, Andy, but unless you cleaned up his grammar, you apparently elicited some uncharasteristically intelligent, and thoughtful comments from Jeffrey.

Your word association game was interesting, but it might have been more enlightening had you tossed his own name in the mix. His inflated view of self is characteristic of one who has hit rock bottom and is trying desperately to forget what it says about him. The tattoo for example, not to mention the soiled jeans, which seemed glued to his skinny legs, merely draws unflattering attention to his elongated, turtle-like neck, and hints at a very disturbed personality. He mentioned his punk rock fans; I suspect they make him long for his own past.

This is a guy I would expect to see sucking a crack pipe, and looking up at passersby, hand outstretched, asking for spare change.

Vincent and Kayne may be runners up for neurotic of the year, but when it comes to looney tunes, Jeffrey wins, hands down.
