Were you as pleased as I was that sweet Goil was our surprise guest filling in for Nina Garcia on last night's "Watch What Happens?" Is Goil always the go-to guy in the unlikely occurance that a Nina Garcia booking falls through? Perhaps so. With great ease, he joined Elle Decor Editrix Margaret Russell for your live emails and questions about last night's show, design, dating and life.
Goill brought a homemade sign that said he loved Jared the hot contractor who he apparently dissed in last week's episode. After looking at this pic of Jared I believe that I love him, too, and I don't blame Goil for wanting to bring Jared back to his good graces. Goil was very sensitive to any question that in any way inferred a dis or asked him to pick favorites. He is sweet that way.
It was a great opportunity to see Margaret unwound, so to speak ... or I think unedited is the better word. I remember the first night of shooting "TD," she almost-cornered me with her fear that she'd be turned into a bad guy by our editors. She was smart to realize even then that hours of critical discussion is cut into minutes, and that there's a ton left on the edit room floor that nobody sees. She said last night that she called Nina to give her pointers about the experience of being a judge, so clearly she went into the process more informed than many.
In terms of her being a victim of the edit room, we often do pick the most pointed of her criticisms, and so to some she might read as mean as Barbara Bush (please do not get me started about what a mean lady our former First Lady was) -- but she ain't a mean lady, and I think if you listen to what she is saying it's in the realm of someone with a strong background in design critique. It isn't Barbara v. Nancy/Margaret v. Carisa personal stuff. She's not even Laura Bush mean. (Please don't get me started about what an awful ... no I am just kidding I actually don't think Laura is mean, just maybe a teensy weensy bit medicated and also a teensy bit nice??)
OK I have veered off into FirstLadyLand and I want to be in GoilWorld. As if Goil's Jared-sign wasn't enough, he brought Margaret and I gifts, little Dunny kidrobot dolls made by Azteca. As it was nearing midnight, the entire explanation is murky but I think they are Japanese collectible dolls. I love mine.
