Hairspray Premiere!

Last night was the big NYC premiere of "Hairspray", the movie of the musical. Beyond being a superfan of the 80s original movie, I am oddly emotionally close to the musical, having dated someone from its original cast. I've seen - and loved - the show a multitude of times and was a veritable stage door Johnny. I was the guy who snuck in the theater three or four times a week at 10:33 PM, standing in the back watching my BF try to "Stop the Beat". (He never could stop that beat. Ya can't.)

So there are all sorts of relationship things tied into this show for me, and I know that sounds pretty queer. With a capital Q. It's true though.

Mark Shaiman and Scott Wittman not only are the genius, Tony winning duo behind the "Hairspray" soundtrack, they set me up with my ex!

Valentino 45

I just spent three days in Rome for a massive celebration of Valentino's 45th anniversary. In Italy, there are two people with stature: Valentino and the Pope. I don't know what kind of parties Benedict throws, but if you're ever faced with conflicting invites from those two Himbos, go with Valentino's. (The New York Times estimated yesterday that the festivities cost 10 million.)

It was a fashion parade like never before and the models were royalty, fashion superstars, superstar superstars, and the living dead directly from the pages of Hola! and Hello! - all in Valentino. For every event (there were four big ones), Valentino and more Valentino... My date was my friend Natasha Richardson, who's movie "Asylum" just opened there to great acclaim.
