Summer '08 Memories...

Time for a moment of Zen about the last few months... I spent my summer riding a high from my 40th birthday in June. It never really went away. Here are some other random Summer '08 vibes:

** the summer on Bravo began with the A LIST AWARDS. I am still grateful that's over and turned out so great... That show was a bear, but ending the night at Florent with the "Real Housewives of Orange County" made it special...

** The NYT loves to write a yearly think piece pondering the 'song of the summer'. Mine was one they didn't even mention - ESTELLE's "American Boy". (Maybe it was the song of the spring?) Who cares if her teeth are insane - her songs are great!

On my list of fave entertainers you will find the Lady Bunny. She's a drag superstar vanguard who started in Atlanta with roomies RuPaul and Flotilla DeBarge, the Queen of Large. She went on to mount many successful off-off Broadway one woman shows, founded Wigstock, and DJ'd at both my 30th and 40th Birthday parties. I am crazy for this queen! (And, as you will see, boy can she TALK...)

Now that Sexy Sam is engaged, TC: Chicago's Spike is nipping at the crown as most eligible Top Chef alum.

Spike applied to compete on "Top Chef Miami", and then gave it another shot when he wasn't cast. Aren't we all the better for his tenacity? Aren't the people on Capitol Hill lucky that Spike opened a burger joint in their hood? And aren't we happy that we can celebrate Monday with him on a videoblog?

It is not headline news that Wesley and Daniel are cuckoo for each other! But when Runway's lean, young, mock-boot and slim-pant-wearing gays spent 29 of the 30 minute After-Show holding hands, I couldn’t resist keeping them for a few minutes of extra videoblog chatting to go deep about their burgeoning love.

Summer Monday Word Jumble

It is Monday morning, which means two things: "Date My Ex" is on tonight, and my mind is in a jumble. Thus:

** Was I the only one who had zero interest in the Beijing Olympics
a few weeks ago and is now fully hooked and engaged? I watched Friday night's swimming with an American fashion icon who was trying to tell me that the swimmers are FAT. "Look at all their SKIN!" he kept
saying. Um, this is why there are skeletons walking the runways of
the world.

By the way, there was a piece on NPR the other day saying that all the commentators are mispronouncing "Bay-JING" as and Ameri-french-esque "Bay-SHING".

Friday Foam

Whenever I run into TOP CHEF's unforgettable Heat Miser, Marcel Vigneron, I am overcome with amazement.

I am amazed by his hair. I am amazed by his compactness. I am amazed by his raps. I am amazed by his foam. I am amazed by his wordiness. I am amazed he almost didn't get cast. I am amazed by his last name. I am amazed by his enormous eyes. I am amazed that I watched the TC finale with he and Ilan and then hosted a live post-show that resulted in one of the most awkward nights evah.

Anyway, he stopped by my dorm room the other day and I thought our chat might be just the amuse bouche to kick off a mid-Aug weekend... (I might be wrong...)

Thursday Waits For No One

It is only fitting that after last night's shocking elimination (people wondered what the judges were on), we had an equally shocking after-show.

Miss Kelly Martin is a FIRECRACKER! Hockey superstar - and superstar hottie – Mr. Sean Avery was a fitting companion for the now-redheaded F-bomb dropping auf'd gal.

We played two games: "Gay, Straight, or Metrosexual" and "Word Association". Sean didn't know what "poppers" are and Kelly had never heard of Michael Phelps! Michael Phelps!

"Sue me for never watching the f--ing olympics," she chirped, in her third and final drop of the F-bomb.

It is raining like krazy this morning and I feel like watching the Olympics under some 'shmere and pondering Bob Costas' hair.

The beach was a triumph this weekend...

Saturday afternoon Troy asked me if I was going to the benefit for Madonna's charity. I told him I was going as a friend's plus-one to a party for Mariah's marriage. We were bemused in the realization that there were competing diva parties within one mile of each other.

I was quietly speculating that if Madge was going to a charity thing then she'd certainly stop by the Mariah thing when she was through. This was based on zero info or intel.

Greetings from LA where I'm spending the day with "Flipping Out" maniacs Jeff, Jenny, Ryan and Zoila taping the reunion which will air next week. Let's not get ahead of the real event though, tonight's "Flippin" Finale followed by the premiere of "Million Dollar Listing".

You are gonna love season two of MDL. We follow three young LA real estate turks as they spray their RealtorMagic all over town, closing multi million dollar deals along the way. It is great real estate porn and some insane drama along the way. It is produced by the folks at World Of Wonder, so you know it's gotta be good. Let me know what you think, and thanks to those of you who posted questions for Jeff and Co. yesterday; I'll ask them today!

As it is across America, it is summer in Los Angeles. (Duh.) I feel like I am in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't get summer in LA. I feel like nobody's here. Or like nobody's supposed to be here. Last night at the Sunset Tower, I overheard someone saying some bad shit about "Real People" ClassicLady Sarah Purcell. Do people stop talking about real celebs during the summer in LA? (Btw I would rather hear about Sarah Purcell and Skip Stephenson than Eva Longoria Porker at this point).

What I didn't comment on yesterday is the INSANE story of Nikki (the loveable fatty from the "Hairspray" movie) Blonsky versus the girl from "America's Next Top Model". Did you hear about it?!

Apparently there was a war between the Blonsky family and the Model-girl's family at the Turks and Caicos airport over the Blonsky's alleged unwillingness to move their luggage from some gateside chairs. This war turned into a race war of some kind and now Nikki's dad is in the SLAMMER, Nikki is in a neck brace, and there are more injuries but I can't remember the whole story.

And oh Lord as I type this I am remembering that Blonsky took part in the A-List Awards charity fashion show! And that she was very lovely. And she wore Malan Bretan from Taiwan. And now she's a hair hopping, Golden Globe nominated CONVICT! Her DADDY is in THE CLINK!

I don't imagine there are many glasses clinking over at Madonna's pad, what with NEW YORK MAG doing a cover story diagramming the current state of her current face. I guess if you're Madonna and you get a few tweaks you have to expect that the facelift is basically public domain.

CAB REPORT: I didn't take a cab today but someone is coming to pick me up to take me to Jeff Lewis. I don't think it will be a noteworthy ride. I just have a feeling.

Weird Weekend

I am on a plane bound for LA where Jeff Lewis and Jenni are standing by to hear your questions for the "Flipping Out Reunion" we're taping tomorrow. (It will air next Tuesday.) If you have any last minute stuff you are dying to know from Jeff, post it below and I will take a look at the end of today.

I don't know what kind of weird vibes were in the air this past weekend but I got hammered with ca-ca all over the place.

On Friday, after five faithful years, my Powerbook completely crashed. I went into a panic about getting my stuff back (!) and about needing to watch lotsa cuts online over the weekend, for which I was dependent on my compooter. I made contact with my computer guy who talked me off the ledge, while Anthony grabbed a new Macbook Pro.
