Is Anthony 'In' Or 'Out'...

September 30, 2008

Here at Bravo, we're obsessed with fashion (new episode of "Rachel Zoe" tonight, people!), so when my trusty assistant Anthony showed up the other day with a questionable outfit, I decided to turn Andy's Blog into the Bravo Office Fashion Police.

Check it out - and let us know what YOU think!

Happy New Year

September 29, 2008

It is a beautiful day here in NYC and let me be the first to wish the two of you (my Parents) a happy new year.

I can't shake the cold I picked up on Emmy night, so I spent most of the weekend in bed watching TV, thus today's blog about TV.

Watching the debate was like sitting on pins and needles for 90 minutes. I was surprised by how well people thought Obama did. I thought he could've returned a lot of McCain's punches harder and stronger. I guess that's not his style and I guess it worked to some people.

Pre-debate, there was an amazing hour on ABC that juxtaposed McCain's life story with Obama's. Before he turned into a crazy old man, McCain looked like a movie star. His POW story is always incredible to hear. My friend Lynn was one of the producers and I bet they'll be getting some Emmys next year (unless they're up against "Amazing Race".) Part 2 airs next week.

Did anybody see the two hour "Survivor" premiere? That show is so damn great. I still fast-forward through the challenges though. Roll the ball, latch the chain, light the fire, blah blah blah. Jeff Probst is a great host. Why isn't THAT show up for Best Competitive Reality??? It is superb.

I wasn't crazy about the season premiere of "The Office", but I saw last season's finale for the first time over the weekend and loved it. I prefer a half-hour episode to an hour.

Saturday night was a viewing party for the premiere of my friend Troy Roberts' unbelievable story on "48 Hours". He's spent much of the past year with Shawn Hornbeck and his family. Shawn is the kid who was abducted and basically held hostage for 4 1/2 years while he endured unspeakable abuse. He made it out alive and told his story a year later to Troy. It was a blow away hour of television.

I didn't think the SNL Palin-Couric skit was so funny because the original was so jaw-dropping that it needed no parody. It was parody itself. Roll the original tape!

I watched a ton of movies like "Dolores Claiborne", "Best in Show" some documentary about Broadway that's running on Showtime, and "The African Queen". (That is a very gay list of movies, I know.)

CAB REPORT: Do I want to have easy access to my cabbie? You betcha! Thus, I love a cab without a passenger-driver barrier and Alexander Burgos' ride suited me just fine till I spilled hot tea in my crotch due to his jerky lurky driving. ALEX!?!?! We laughed about it later and I good naturedly massaged his shoulders. (I didn't.) The fare was $10.90 and I gave him $13.

K is For Kenley

September 25, 2008

We had Tabatha and Suede on the After Show last night and all anybody really wanted to discuss was Kenley. She's a lightning rod hot topic: Dissing Tim! Sassing Nina! Eye rolling on the Runway! We played a game called "Hot or Freaking Disgusting" and we all agreed that Kenley is "hot".

I am mad for Tabatha and her show. There's a new episode tonight. In the meantime, you can watch the after show HERE.

I have a lot of random thoughts this morning...

** There is now WiFi on American Airlines, so I was instant messaging from LA to NYC yesterday. I like being able to read Drudge, but I'm still grateful that my BlackBerry doesn't work up there. I treat it like a rash when I am on a plane. Do. Not. Touch.

C is For Clay, Candy and Cloris

September 24, 2008

The fact that Clay Aiken is coming out is a beautiful thing. I do wonder what took him so long. HE knew it and WE knew it... Maybe his MAMA didn't know it? I bet that was it, the ClayDelay was on account of his sweet Mama. Oh Mama, you know now! Give him a hug. He don't mean no harm. Will it still be funny when Kathy Griffin calls him Gayken? (It will.) Will the ClayMates still worship him? (I don't know.).

I am on a plane back to NYC this morning and will land in time to join Tabatha Coffey and tonight's eliminated Runway Designer on the after-show. I am getting concurrently sadder and more pumped for the season to end. The last 4 episodes are fantastic. There will be much to discuss online tonight!!!!

I found myself at Candy Spelling's home yesterday. It's the truth and it would be rude for me to say too much because I was not invited to blog. That being said, I feel like I owe it to the three of you who read this blog to say SOMETHING She loves impressionist art, has all of Aaron's scripts leather- bound (I flipped through some "Dynasty"), boasts a screening room that is not to be believed, and is a gracious hostess.

C Is For Cloris

September 23, 2008

Hey there from Los Angeles, where people can't seem to stop talking about "The Rachel Zoe Project". And guess what, there's a new episode on tonight!

As much as I'd heard what a polarizing figure Rachel is, I wasn't ready for all the shit that's thrown at her from every direction. Last week's review of the show in the NEW YORK TIMES was case in point. The "review" read like a personal attack to me, but Rachel took it in great stride. I was equally blown away on Saturday when an amazing column appeared in the HuffPo called "Defending Rachel Zoe".

The column details the Times review, which called Zoe, among other things, "a pox on humanity." "Call her a pox on humanity," HuffPo says, "but don't deny -- she's a beauty mark on the drab face of uninspired television." I like it!

So yeah, there's a new episode tonight. Like I said. Rachel deals with the wrath of bloggers during fashion week. Decide for yourself and let me know what you think.

Emmy

September 22, 2008

Hi from LA.

You can't believe the security getting into the Emmys. It is TV's Biggest Night, but how secure need it be? I wanted 1/100th of the cops to go to LAX and check baggage. Or just sniff around. Al Qaeda ain't trying to get to Eva Longoria. (That is my hunch I don't know it to be the case.)

In the lobby there was panic amongst TV's elite alcoholics that the bars weren't going to be serving booze during the show. I know that every year after we lose to "Amazing Race", we hit the bar to drown our sorrows and curse Phil Keoghan. The closed bar seemed to us like perhaps a sign that the Emmys would be shaken up a bit this year and sorrows would need no drowning.

Viewer Mail

September 19, 2008

We had a lot of fun last night on the Runway post-show with Joe and Chris March. (You can watch it HERE.) The ever adorable Sweet P called in and we played "Gay, Straight, or Metrosexual". Easy. Breezy.

I am hopping a plane to LA and I leave you with a blistering romp through the Andy's Blog mailbag.

Nonsense

September 17, 2008

Tonight is a great two-fer on Bravo. At 9 PM EST, "Project Runway" gets serious followed by a great "Top Design" featuring the interior designers working with "Runway" alum Jeffrey Sebelia, Santino, Sweet P, and Andrae. I'll be live online at 10 PM EST with Chris March and the eliminated designer.

Dan won "Big Brother" last night. What is going to happen to all those dumb houseguests out in the real world? Oy.

I taped some viewer mail yesterday afternoon for posting soon, but I didn't address two issues that have been coming up lately.

I have been getting emails telling me I spend too much time blogging and vlogging and not enough time working. Here's what: as evidenced by the low quality, hokey jokey posts in this space, the truth is I spend about 10-15 minutes a day on blogging and the rest working. As I have said many times, my job is my job and not this blog. If my job was this blog the quality would be a lot better, and I concurrently would be unable to pay my rent.

Rambley Tuesday

September 16, 2008

I hope today is better than yesterday. These are not good times.

Liza emailed me yesterday saying "look what I just saw in front of Zabars:"

andy_bird_320x240.jpg

That is IT. These freakin' 'keet people are messengers of doom, here to tell us that the end of the universe is upon us. Eeeew. I hope that bird didn't get kennel cough on Liza's bagels.

Am I the only one who finds FOUR reported parakeet sightings a wee bit odd???

Speaking of parakeets and love, I am tickled by the pictures of Sulu's gay wedding, and that Mr. George Takei had "Chekov" and "Lieutenant Uhuru" as his best man and maid of honor. I think Nichelle Nichols could make some extra coin as a gay wedding prop. I'd pay a perty penny to have that regal lady at MY Wedding.

I watched 10 minutes of "The Hills" last night and was so flummoxed by the acting of these non-actors. It is so bad I feel like it is a porno version of itself and that sex is about to break out at any moment.

Is Valerie Bertinelli asian? Look at her new Jenny Craig commercial and tell me if she had a brow lift or if she's been asian all along and we were too blinded by her cuteness.

Speaking of cute, real cute: I ran into Donny and Marie's agent at the 'Project Runway' show Friday. I had no freaking idea they just opened a 26 week run in Vegas. I am THERE. It is them, live at the Flamingo for 90 minutes a night. Screw Cirque du Soleil Moon Frye, That's what I call entertainment. (I am being serious.)

CAB REPORT: Soon I won't be able to afford one, so I took full pleasure in the luxury of 3H16. We drove by Lehman Brothers and I said a little prayer.

Monday Is For The Children

September 15, 2008

It is a beautiful day in New York City!

I am glad last week is in the rearview mirror. As much as I love fashion week, it is a whole lotta drama. We were all really happy with how Friday's "Project Runway" finale went. Tim stepped into J-Lo's (twisted ankled?) shoes beautifully and it all went without a hitch.

The wrap party Friday night was packed and loud and included Runway alum from all seasons. It was Santino, Jay, Nick, Malan, Kevin and a ton more. Wesley with there with Daniel and his Mom, which was cute. I brought Ricki Lake, who is a big Runway fan. She and Terri went deep.

Friday On The Runway

September 12, 2008

This morning we were all at the PROJECT RUNWAY finale show at Bryant Park. Unfortunately our guest judge hurt her leg, but Tim Gunn stepped in to the rescue and RUNWAY fans who've always dreamed of seeing Sir Tim judge are going to get their wish... It was a great morning and we'll have a lot more on that later.

This morning a reporter asked Tim what he thought of Sarah Palin's lipstick. He said "her lips are the least of her worries."

Did anyone see last night's episode of TABATHA'S SALON TAKEOVER?? It was my favorite so far. She took over a salon on Long Island and all hell broke loose. SHE KILLS ME. I need to thank the genius who seated her next to me at this morning's runway show?? (It was probably Val.)

She Can't Live With My Design

September 10, 2008

Big night tonight, with a RUNWAY DOUBLE ELMINATION, followed by a brand new "Top Design", which gets a glowing review in today's TIMES. We'll be live online with both eliminated designers, so don't miss it. I am wondering what you thought of the MDL finale and especially the premiere of RACHEL ZOE PROJECT. Let me know below.

When India Hicks stopped by the other day, I enlisted her critique during a little dorm room/office walkthrough... It didn't completely go my way:

Ban The 'Keets!

September 09, 2008

Tonight might be the one to cancel plans and park it in front of the tube... First the ChenBot hosts a live eviction on "Big Brother" on CBS, followed by Bravo's finale of "Million Dollar Listing" and the premiere of "The Rachel Zoe Project".

Yesterday we went to see Isaac Mizrahi's show at the Hammerstein Ballroom. The show was a beauty and the staging featured an amazing effect. Models walked down the first part of a square runway, which was lit from above by a series of yellowish fluorescent lights. They turned a corner, out of the glow of yellow and under spotlights that revealed their garment's true color. Do you get what I am saying? ANYHOW, it was cool. And we ran into Veronica Webb who is an Isaac fave and was working a hot bangs look.

From there it was a super secret (until now?) "Project Runway" shoot and the gang was all there. As I was saying my goodbye to Nina in front of Parsons, I saw a man walking down the street with a rather large parakeet perched on his shoulder. Only in New York, kids.

Bloody Monday

September 08, 2008

It is fashion week in NYC and the city is filled with crazy people ready to blow at any minute...

Yesterday afternoon I was at the DVF show at Bryant Park and the pre-runway chaos among the fashion barbarians seemed even more chaotic than normal. It was every one-name in town like J. Lo and Uma and Tim and Anna and Anderson and Eva on and on.

I know that "Gossip Girl" is so white-hot that it will scald you if you look at it the wrong way, but does said white-hotness merit my getting MANHANDLED by Leighton Meister's security team on her way out?? Seriously. Leighton Meister. Her SECURITY TEAM. What is that? What does she need security FROM?

I am still flummoxed by the amount of halitosis that comes my way whenever I go anywhere. I am at Orange Alert regarding my own breath as a result of what's coming my way. Is there a proper way to tell someone they need a gut-cleansing to clean the cauldron of stink coming from their innards? Or even just a MINT? I might need to call the Countess and ask.

Laura Bennett is Classy

September 05, 2008

Last night we had an amazing party to celebrate Rachel Zoe and her new show, which premieres Tuesday night. It was Kate Hudson and the "Entourage" boys and Shannen Doherty and DVF and more. We can chat more about it next week, but in the meantime let's welcome "Project Runway" fave Laura Bennett to the dorm room for some uncensored gab about politics, Runway, and bad lighting.

Mysteries Of The Walnut

September 03, 2008

This morning I found a WALNUT in the pocket of my suit. This confused me more than McCain's veep choice. When did I come into contact with a WALNUT? And why did I put it in my suit pocket??

andy_nut_320x240.jpg

The only walnut interaction that I can possibly recollect happened a few months ago at the Upper East Side atelier of interior design goddess Charlotte Moss. She is selling lovely walnuts-on-chains that one can open up and store pills inside. I bought one - for 80 bucks! - for Amy Sedaris' birthday last year, for which I still owe her a gift.
