Queer as Folk on Logo

20060829_asfolk_260x220.jpgLast Friday there was an announcement (where were we?) that Logo network is going to show “Queer as Folk” starting Thursday, September 21st.

We first heard this morning and thought, “Hooray!” And then, “Oh… right -- did we even like that show"?

We loved the actors. Everyone was very pretty and we had a separate crush for each of them. Even the lesbians. (Yes, there were lesbians.) The problem with "Queer as Folk" was that it always seemed to be written by the same guys who write dialogue for cheap porn movies.

We really wanted to like it, and we came back every year to see if it had improved. The good news is that towards the end, the show's focus shifted from "being gay is difficult and painful" to "being gay is difficult, painful, and also kinda noble." Plus, graphic sex.

So take "Queer as Folk" for what it is -- groundbreaking low entertainment that's a hoot to watch and has a lot of nudity.

Except that Logo has had to cut out a lot of the sex. And edit some of the language.

q.a.f. is such a good show. i as well as a lot of my st8t friends enjoyed watching it. i have bought, enjoyed and lent out all the seasons of q.a.f. at different times. I really hate to see LOGO screw it up with cutting and bleeping and looping. I love logo except for not showing movies as they were made without the censoring. PLEASE start showing movies as they were made.thank you.

I suppose I can understand how it is that someone might dislike QaF for the explicet sexual content... but the language? I noticed numerous referances to the language in this artical. The problem is... people actually talk like that... and crazy though it might seem... people actually have sex.

I also don't believe that it was in the later episodes that they showed the nobility of homosexuality. I think that it got more adult. There was a high aim towards the teenaged gays. Justin's home problems were a huge roll, and while it might not be, dealing with AIDS or politicians wanting to shut down Liberty Ave. The problems of gay teens is HUGE and very very real. Ending with the finally of Justin getting attacked and that was just the first season

I think you have a few valid points on the flagrant drug use and sex in the show, and that it, in many ways makes it look glamourus, but the show was ground breaking and REAL in a time where the gay community was trying to make the world think that places like Babylon didn't exist and that all gay men and woman were more like that show they ragged on called Gay as Blazes.

This show means a lot to me. It's got everything in a gay drama that no network was doing at the time (2000-2005) it is continuing to change the face of television and bring new audiences by going onto Logo. The fact that it's edited is annoying but for the most part it's all there! I just recently bought the series collection so I'm still in on Season 2 right along w/ the networks schedule. It's def changed opinions and things and it is bringing up subject matter that is real, it just wasn't ever brought to television in such a way as QaF did. I really appreciate it and it makes me love me and it lets others see us as one we're all one."Genitalia is just Gods way of accessorising."-Debbie I appreciate it more now than if I would of watched it earlier. I'll be 21 in four months but it's viewers are of all ages teens especially I just wasn't watching when it started so I feel like a new bird out of it's nest! They've done some great work here that is a homage to the gay culture and just for anyone really.
