A South African gay couple celebrated that nation's very first same-sex wedding over the weekend.
Vernon Gibbs and Tony Halls, who run a guest lodge and animal rehabilitation center, wore uniforms usually reserved for their official game-ranger duties, and were married the day after the government made same-sex marriage legal.
"It was so amazing. So quick and easy. I can't believe it. I am so happy," said Gibbs.
South Africa is the first nation in Africa and the fifth country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage, despite a sometimes dangerous clash with political and church figures.
"We couldn't stop people coming in and taking pictures," said groom Gibbs. He went on to say that the date of the marriage was significant, because it falls on World AIDS day.
