A video clip about gay hip-hop singer DeadLee is the most popular video on CNN today. We watched it don’t know what’s better: his sexy thug look, or the nerdy suit that interviews him nervously.
Whatever: so many gay artists have tried to break into hip-hop with absolutely no commercial success. So it’s too soon to break out the champagne. But congrats to DeadLee for scoring CNN. The coverage should inspire others to check out his videos. They’re sexy, and very gay, practically soft-core-sweet. His songs are truly hip-hop and he “reclaims” (that’s his word) faggot for his own purposes, which is classic hip-hop-defiant.
Will the majority of hip-hop fans start listening to DeadLee instead of homophobes like Eminem or 50 Cent? Who knows … but a tour of gay and lesbian hip-hop artists currently making the rounds (they’re in San Diego next) may also help.
