All Around the Mondo-Homo

When a friend-of-OUTzoneTV.com sent us word that his book, MondoHomo, was sharing it's name with a grassroots queer arts, politics and general fun-for-all festival we said: Huh? But then they answered all our questions. Here's what our new pals said:

"MONDOHOMO is primarily music, dance, performance, art and political workshops that celebrate the Southern Queer Community's collective diversity and contribution to politics, art and community nationwide.

This the very first time that a queer festival and the U.S. social forum are coming together, which is very very significant for the queer community because it brings gender-queer issues to the attention of 20,000 activists and makes this issue a part of bigger social issues, a rank it truly deserves.

This is not just a party, this is activism. This is the showcase of the Southern gay/queer community and how it is one of the most active, politically conscious, community-building, hard-working subculture in America. That said, it is happening in the South, an area that often does not get recognized because many people do not fully understand how tight-knit and self-supportive the queer network is here and how it is growing.

This event can truly serve as a model for community building for all cultures/gender identities because it is solely focused on small scale, grassroots, DIY efforts, which is what the country needs right now because obviously the government is incapable of designing such self-supportive systems. Instead it chooses to disect local business and community through capitalist gains."
