Really, we sometimes wonder if the real benefit of “American Idol” is to lose the thing. Other than Kelly, Ruben, Fantasia, Taylor Hicks … when do we ever hear from these people? Meanwhile, you can’t turn on a tabloid TV without seeing one of the “losers” modeling a new dress, winning an Oscar, or inspiring a Broadway musical.
Rabid Clay Aiken fans have actually inspired a new Broadway musical called “Claymates.” According to PR-Inside.com, the project is described as “a satirical musical comedy that focuses on the outrageous and delusional fan base of “American Idol.”
Sorry for the pun but this isn’t inspired, it’s “gay-spired.” Who’s fooling whom here? No one does the fanatical dance quite like us gays.
The musical takes place in Ohio, highlighting a collection of High School students that are unable to get Clay off the brain. They meet up in a barn to praise at a shrine dedicated to the “Idol” runner up because he represents their dreams of leaving their small town and making it as a star.
Interesting but we’ve heard this tale before haven’t we? Didn’t anyone listen to that Rod Stewart song “Killing of Georgie?” No? Too long ago? Fine. What about John Cougar Mellencamp then? Really? How old are you people anyway?!? We’re slowly slumping away to try and figure out how our iPods work.

Whoever wrote this article would be well served to do a little research regarding American Idol contestant's we've heard of. I scarcely believe that there is a person on the planet that is not aware of the PHENOMENAL success of Carrie Underwood. Pity really.
