Presidential candidate John Edward’s wife Elizabeth has been all over the news of late. It began with her remarks on gay marriage and, more importantly, the fact she split on her opinion of it with her presidential hopeful husband.
While John Edwards publicly supports civil unions but not gay marriage his wife, who has already grabbed the spotlight thanks to her fight with breast cancer, made news with her very public support of it during Sunday’s Gay Pride Parade in San Francisco.
Speaking to reporters at a Seattle campaign stop she further explained the difference in opinion of the two:
“I had a more eclectic background. I grew up seeing lots of places, lots of different lifestyles,” she said. “John was raised in Southern mill towns -- conservative places.”
According to the Seattle Times, Elizabeth isn’t sure if she’ll be able to persuade her husband to support gay-marriage but hopes it will be a not so lengthy struggle.
“I think it’s a journey we’re all on as a country. Our daughter, who is 25, says this will not be an issue when this generation takes the White House.”
