We always look toward hopeful news here at the OZ and today’s CNN news story falls into that favor.
According to the results of a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released today, a majority of Americans believe that gays and lesbians could not change their sexual orientation even if they wanted to.
The poll also confirmed that most Americans do not believe that the earth is flat or that man used dinosaurs as pets and construction workers in prehistoric rock quarries.
The poll is somewhat monumental (as much as a poll can be) in that it is the first time the majority of Americans held that belief regarding homosexuality.
55% percent of about 515 respondents said they do not believe sexual orientation can be changed, up from 45% percent in 2001 and 46% percent in 1998.
Of course there were still a lot of gay boys wearing acid wash denim back then, which perhaps affected straight opinions of us.
