Cyndi Lauper tore the house down Tuesday night in Toronto as part of her True-Colors gay-rights concert tour. If you haven’t already heard, Cyndi has struck out on quite frankly the most awesome tour of the summer.
The best part about it is the music is backed by a cause. Cyndi and her fellow artists are using their wonderful music to trumpet the cause of gay rights. The concert tour is raising money to support the Human Rights Campaign and also awareness of hate-crimes and hate-crime legislation. Addressing the crowd of Canadians during the Tuesday show, Cyndi praised them:
“You can get married legally, you have insurance for your spouses,” she said. “I wish that Americans could be more like Canadians.”
The gay happy concert bill also includes Debbie Harry, The Dresden Dolls, punk band The Clicks, comedian Margaret Cho and OUTzone fave Erasure.
The Canadian web site Cbc.ca has the complete rundown on the Toronto show, which included what sounds like an orgasmic rendition of the ABBA hit “Take a Chance on Me,” sung by all the shows participants. A portion of the proceeds for the show went to supporting local gay rights group Pride Toronto.
The good news is the tour isn’t over with stops remaining in both Texas and California. For more information on True Colors click here.
