We like to give the benefit of the doubt, so maybe Hallmark got there Father’s Day and Pride week all mixed up? That could be the only decent explanation for one of their most recent Father’s Day cards:
The card, described by PlanetOut.com, features a photo of a very upscale picnic, complete with a bottle of wine, fruit and bread, and wicker basket. Above that photo it says, “Dad, how about a Father’s Day picnic?” and the punch line reads, “Too queer? Yeah, I thought so too.”
Nothing says gay like upscale and wine, we suppose. Oh, and if you think it’s only Father’s Day we hear our dad blurt out queer then you’re very much mistaken. And we love you for it pops!
Hallmark has already apologized for the insensitive card, releasing a statement through their media liaison:
“Hallmark reviewed (the card) today and did all agree that it was in poor judgment to include the card in the line. We are stopping the shipping of the card, and we will not produce it again. Hallmark's intent is never to offend, and we're truly sorry if that is the case here.”
From the sound of it we have just enough time left to run out and buy our dad a belated Father’s Day card.
