According to a story on Starpulse.com, “Grey’s Anatomy” actress Ellen Pompeo is thrilled that she’s a gay icon. Okay, we weren’t fully aware that she was one but -- you know what? -- we’ll roll with it.
Actually the TV star has been a strong spokeswoman for gay groups and gives thanks to her less than conventional upbringing as the reason behind her healthy attitude towards gay men and lesbians.
“I was raised by drag queens, practically … my mother died when I was four-years-old, so I was effectively raised by a bunch of different people. A lot of those people were friends of my sister, Kathleen, who had all these gay friends. She would baby-sit me everyday, and she would take me over to her friend’s houses with all kinds of things going on: tucking, and eyebrow drawing, waxing, all sorts of things. I was literally raised by gay men.”
Talk about it takes a village! Reading this it’s really no wonder to us why homophobic Isaiah Washington could never adjust to his co-workers on the show: between the teddy bear cute gay cast mate, a main actress who was raised, apparently, by the cast of Moulin Rouge and those two McHot Boys it’s enough to make any uptight straight guy blurt our incredibly inappropriate remarks backstage at the Emmy’s.
