Somewhere between the movie Birdcage and Ellen coming out, Hollywood turned gay happy. At least that’s the story. The myth that there were no gay themes in film before the modern day era is just that … a myth.
In honor of Pride week Turner Classic Movies presents “Screened Out: Gay Images in Film,” a 44 film collection that spans 6 decades from 1912-1970.
TCM will air these unique and, in some cases, seldom heard of films during all of June. They will present a new movie every Monday and Wednesday. For clips, photos and some excellent trailers click here.
We couldn't be more pleased by the news. With summer reruns in full effect, is there a better way to spend a Monday night then watching film icons at the top of their game?
Among the featured films: The Children’s Hour starring Shirley MacLaine and Audrey Hepburn, Out and Open starring Rex Harrison and Richard Burton, and Queen Christina with Greta Garbo.
