Bionic Lesbian

We’d like to begin this story by saying we had no clue that Starbuck from “Battlestar Galactica” was cast in the new NBC show “Bionic Woman.” The actress Katee Sackhoff, who made her name on the Sci-Fi show, now in its final year, has turned into somewhat of a lesbian icon, according to The Hollywood Reporter. With that in mind, how might she react upon the news that former “Grey’s Anatomy” star Isaiah Washington had been cast to join “Bionic?”

Courtesy of Popnography.com:

Sackhoff has become a lesbian icon because of her character Capt. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace on "Battlestar," and her no-show [at a panel promoting Bionic Woman] raised speculation that she might be boycotting "Bionic" in light of Monday's announcement that Isaiah Washington, fired from "Grey's Anatomy" for reportedly using an anti-gay slur, is joining the new NBC series.

There has been no official comment from Sackhoff regarding the convenient absence but it is also possible the actress is angling for a better contract. As for ole' Isaiah, his presence on “Bionic Woman” has added a new and possibly unwanted buzz to the much talked about show.

The show’s executive producer Jason Smilovic has refuted claims that the character Washington is to play on the show was created specifically for him and when asked about igniting a boycott from the audience by involving him with the show Smilovic responded, “Absolutely not. We embrace the gay community and hope they watch the show. But we believe in second chances, and we aren’t about making assignations or judgments on what happened [on “Grey’s Anatomy”] … We’ve found that the best way to handle a situation like this is not to cast people out or excommunicate them, but to let them make amends.”

We totally agree. This is the proper way to handle a slightly entitled, clearly homophobic B-list television actor. We used to try and handle them like bears: which is to stop, remain calm, then try to move upwind and give the b-list homophobe (or bear) your scent … and always avoid direct eye contact. Not easy to do on Rodeo Drive.

Unfortunately for NBC, they've made a bad decision. I will boycott this show now that Mr. Washington has been cast in a role. I believe in second chances, but this guy although he went to get "treatment" still points the finger toward everyone else saying it's "racial", it's "T.R. who should be fired", blah, blah, blah. Give him some time off to really think about what the real problem is! He has certainly had incidents in his past besides the Grey's fiasco to dwell upon, also. Sorry NBC, inviting a man with all this baggage was the wrong decision.

I totally agree with Rick. I watched Washington on Larry King. When he turn around and pointed the finger at T.R., I realized this guy is a good actor, because he's acting now.

Who cares! It's a show and he's just a character. Do you know how many racist, sexist actors there are out there? Maybe even on your favorite show?? (gasp!) Just enjoy shows and movies for what they really are...fantasy.

We as gay people should live and learn, there are always two sides to every story, and are we on T.R.'s side because he is gay, because none of us were present, and strangely enough, no one else was talking about the incident but T.R and Isiah. If it wasn't for second chances, imagine what the world would be like.
