A woman was kicked out of a West Village restaurant in New York for being a butch lesbian. Let me repeat that: A West Village restaurant in New York.

The establishment in question is the Mexican restaurant Caliente Cab Company, which is described by the AP has a “popular restaurant in Manhattan.” Not to come across as complete New York snobs but this joint ain’t the tops people. There is a giant sombrero sticking out the front of the building for one thing and who wouldn’t want to be at Sushi Samba, just down the road, for the other.

Anyway, Khadijah Farmer, 27, said the incident occurred on June 24th when she had gone to eat with her girlfriend and another friend after the NY Pride Parade.

Farmer went to use the bathroom when a male bouncer busted in and banged on the stall door, saying another customer had complained of a man entering the women’s bathroom. When Farmer offered to show the bouncer her ID to prove, in fact, that she is a woman he informed her it was “neither here nor there.”

Farmer was taken back to her table and her party had to pay their check then leave.

"I felt embarrassed and humiliated," said Farmer who lives in Manhattan and works as a counselor for people with disabilities. "I'm just hurt that even my wanting to prove that I'm female wasn't enough."
