PinkNews has news on the interesting findings of a research study. Two British psychologists who have been looking at domestic partnerships between same-sex couples have concluded that gay men want a Big Gay Wedding.
The doctors interviewed 38 couples from the UK and asked them to complete questionnaires.
“Same sex relationships are seen as devoid of gender and gendered power relations, however, lesbian and gay male couples' accounts of, and approaches to, their own civil partnerships demonstrated the implicit gendered nature of civil partnerships," they conclude.
According to the study, gay men are much more open to a “traditional” wedding ceremony than lesbian couples. We can only take that to mean you hear a lot more Lionel Richie and Ms. Natalie Cole at the gay wedding receptions.
On the other hand, the research states that Lesbian couples are more critical of the heterosexual patriarchal associations of marriage, which makes Lesbian couples all sound like radical Amazonians to us. We think, to put it more elegantly, Lesbian couples kinda dig serving some wine and getting hitched in their backyards more than gay men.
Lesbians were conscious of not over-stating the ceremony, more critical of consumerism typically.
