20060915_best_260x220.jpgAfter he made an outfit for Vincent's sister, Robert Best was auffed from Project Runway far sooner than we would have liked. Our comment boards were flooded with fans who both loved Robert for his wit (and his t-shirts) and fans who thought he was a "trash-talker." We caught up with him to see how he was holding up.

Overall, how did Project Runway go for you?
Great. Overall it was great, no regrets, no bad feelings -- nothing. I think I can definitely say it was very positive and continues to be so, which is amazing.

So what are you doing now?
I'm back with Barbie. I'm working at Mattel, where I came from and they were kind enough to take me back. They saw the footage and they weren't horrified. It's been remarkable, actually, because it's something I was always conscious of when I was doing the show. I said, "You're not coming out as the spokesman for Mattel or Barbie, but you still kind of represent that to a degree. So you can't be a complete psychopath. It just wouldn't do."

So to get back and have executives congratulate me and tell me I did a good job and I did the company proud - there's satisfaction in that.

There are a lot of comments on our boards about how your clothes for Barbie are by far their favorites. I think it definitely gives a visibility to work that I've been doing here that people didn't really know about. A lot of times, understandably, the story is Barbie, so they don't get into the people behind the designs and I think it's given a whole new look for people as to who's working on what for the doll, which is interesting.

What's Barbie like as a client?
Barbie's awesome. What I love about Barbie is that you can just do anything with her. There are no limitations. I've said this before and it sounds like I'm trying to calm down the critics, but I truly believe that the issues people have with Barbie are their issues. You know? It's an eleven and a half inch plastic doll, she doesn't have feelings. Barbie doesn't have an eating disorder - you do. Admit it.

Robert, I know you have heard it before, and I am sure will hear it again, but the first dress you made, with the beads and red bows in the back was my favorite dress ever on PR. I also really liked the cheap tacky cocktail trash dress that a hooker might wear! I miss you, and the gorgeous collection I know you would have made.

Robert, as an old broad of 54 years I never expected to be a PR fan. But, my 10 yr. old granddaughter and I just loved you! She was heartbroken when you were eliminated! We both think you were robbed, you should have won the very first challenge! We love you sense of humor, style and personality! Best of luck in all your endeavors!

Robert, I am sorry but I agree with you totally, its not about the dress to me its about the client, so what if the dress is awesome, if its not comfortable to client or the client doesn't like it, than that is whatits about. Heidi Klum, and Michael Kors were wrong, Michael Kors stuff at Dillard's is already 75% off here in Daytona Beach, they run small, and don't fit in with the Daytona Beach market.
Wish you the best !

To the fact that robert was robbed, sadly I can say I dissagree. I love robert as much as the next person but as he said himself he was getting boring and the last 3 contests were just that boring. as someone who came from issac and barbie you would think that there woule be some of the most creative aspects ever. but they were safe and that was it. i dont doubt that there could be a line from robert in the future. and that gays and women alike would adore him for it.

the looks dont hurt as well robert has by far been the best looking guy on the stage :)

When the designers were introduced in the first episode, Robert immediately stood out for me! As the weeks went on, I was on the lookout for what he had done. Handsome, sexy & now I read how grounded & unaffected he is. I am an old straight woman, but oh my goodness!!!
