chat_carlos2_320x240.jpgNow that he got the boot! "Ouch!"

Carlos, back in Fort Lauderdale, talked to OUTzone about his time on "Top Chef." We kinda totally love Carlos. Not only is he incredibly funny and a pleasure to talk to -- he's one of the most down-to-earth guys we've ever interviewed. Stop by his restaurant if you get a chance.

OZ: So. Are you a star publicly in Fort Lauderdale?
People are stopping me. Asking me questions. Asking for autographs. It’s all been really positive so far, no stalkers or anything yet. So I’m really happy about that.

OZ: Any unwanted come ons?
Unless they have platinum or diamonds, I’m not even considering it.

OZ: Hey, it’s good to have standards.
Right. And if that doesn’t work, lower them, honey.

OZ: How long have you been in Fort Lauderdale?
In October, it was our eleventh year. We moved down in 95. We run the restaurant together. He runs the house from the back of the house. He keeps an eye on everything.

Hi Carlos,

My favorite scene on the show so far, was when you confronted Betty about the sugar thing (i.e. Camp Glucose challenge). Your manner was calm, direct and without rancor. It really was a standout moment because you managed to address the issue honestly, yet put her on the spot and eventually in her place. Unfortunately, she cried her way to an acquittal. She should have been eliminated then and there.

I was sorry to see you depart somewhat prematurely. You added a lot of class to the group with your elegance and gentlemanly ways.

Best of luck to you in the future!

I am a lady, and I am hetero, and I am a new fan of TC and I was totally taken with Carlos, who is now my culinary hero. Gorgeous, polite, funny, charming, AND HE COOKS, to boot! (his dishes looked and sounded delectable -- even his Thanksgiving salad that everyone disdained) I was rooting for him all the way.
He rose to the occasion of the vending machine challenge with that carrot loaf (Unlike a certain other fellow, whose "dish," if you can even bring yourself to call it that, consisted of a cheese snack puff jammed into a Snickers squished into the shape of a doggie deposit. Yes, it literally looked like crap on a plate)
If anyone deserved to get the pan (my culinary synonym for getting the boot -- think someone slamming a huge heavy frying pan onto someone else's head) on the T-giving episode it was Betty, who was not only shrewish and sarcastic, but had the brass huevos to serve grown people (one of whom was noted chef and food expert Anthony Bourdain, no less!) what was essentially baby food with burned sugar on top. And THEN she had MORE brass huevos to complain about Carlos' garden delight. Another contender who deserved the pan was Marcel. Not only was his stuffed turkey roll dry, but his cranberry thingie -- despite the fancy label he gave it -- was nothing but glorifed Jello, for crying in Manhattan! But no-o-o-o-o. It was helpful, mannerly, handsome Carlos who got the pan. (I think both Anthony Bourdain and Tom Colicchio were total yahoos to let him go!)
I admired, however, Carlos' reaction to getting the pan. He took it like a real caballero and a great sport.
Let it be said that Carlos didn't CHOOSE to make a salad, it was thrust upon him, and he did the best he could with what he was assigned.
Carlos Fernandez, you're my hero!

First of all, what is the deal with all of the bandwagon "HATE" directed by the other chefs towards Marcel???!! Have I missed something?? I don't think so, as I have watched each and every episode so far this season. I have not seen Marcel treat anyone with the outright disrespect, and callousness that he has had to endure himself..It must be jealousy, because I feel he really has a chance to be the top chef. Now don't get me wrong, I think that Sam, Cliff, and Ilan also round out the top 4, and had she not been sent home, Josie was also excellent in my book.I was really suprised to se her go..bad decision in my opinion. Here is my take on things...Betty is a fake, bullying jealous bioch!! I for one will be so happy to see her go, cannot stand her, too, too phony, and too much attitude.Mia, is okay, but she seems to not really be herself in her personal interaction with the other chefs, also kind of fake.Frank is average at best and seems to have anger issues, Poor Michael, who seems nice enough is just out of his league, I keep wondering, how was he chosen to compete on this show...he seems to be the comic relief! I like Elia, she is very sweet, and I am rooting for her also (although I am not feeling too good about her chances)..but back to my main concern, can anyone give me a good reason for all of the "Marcel Hateration"???!!! I for one like him. I just don't get it!!!

Betty's screaching voice and ugly disposition, make her the worst combination for a woman. Oh, and she is a cheater, two tsp of sugar, yeah right. Wish she she would go pack her knives
