With only five episodes left, OUTzone spoke with Maurice Townsell, whose career has really taken off after "Manhunt". A native of Reno, Nevada, Maurice is now based in LA and has appeared on “The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency.” We caught up with him to ask how exactly the glare of the “Manhunt”-spotlights helped his career.
OZ: How are you doing?
I’m doing great. Just chillin’ in LA. Enjoying the weather.
OZ: Is that your home base now?
I’ve been here for the filming and from there, I might stay while the show is airing.
OZ: How’s “The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency” going?
Great. She picked me up as one of her main models, she has a pretty much, I mean, everyone on the show is a main model, but she has like, a certain group. She has a “new faces” – people she thinks aren’t quite ready for it, but she has me on the sort of main board. So that’s been cool.
OZ: So, the modeling is going well, for you, then?
Yeah, I have a few agents around. And some of the main clients that I work with are great. I’ve been doing a lot of stuff for Nike. Matt Lanter and I did a Nautica campaign together. He’s doing a lot of great stuff.
OZ: How effective do you think “Manhunt” was in helping you launch a career?
Well I was doing some modeling work before that. But I think the show…I ended up getting third place and IMG sent me to New York to help get me representation. And they helped me get to a point where I was…I basically got to choose who I wanted to represent me. And that’s hard, if you don’t have someone helping. You have to submit yourself and hope that someone picks up your file. So, getting to pick my own type of agent was really great.

I enjoyed you on Manhunt. Too bad it did not turn into a series, if that was the objective. It was good to see you on the Dickenson show and I wish you much success.
I did feel, thought, that you were reserved or stand-backish in your dealing with gays. But now I see you understand the business of dealing with all people and that is refreshing.
