Jesse was the first interview we ever conducted here at OUTzonetv.com. We caught up with him again to make sure he's doing just as well as he was last season. He never fails to amuse us.
OZ: Season Two. Lay it On us. What’s different?
What isn’t different, let’s talk about that. Business is really good and that’s exciting.
OZ: In addition to the training, you also make healthy food and deliver it. How does that work?
It depends. I have different options, and price structures and whatnot. Some people get two meals a day, some get three, some get one. It really depends on what they’re looking for.
OZ: Do you have a go-to food theory?
My theory with food seems to be ever changing. The one consistency is that balance is very important. I don’t really believe in diets, because people get into a mindset with diets that they’re not a llowed to have what they want. I think it’s human nature to want what you can’t have. And so if you want a cookie, eat the cookie, because if you don’t, chances are you’ll be eating ten of them in your underwear in the middle of the night.
OZ: There are all these snarky jokes about "gay chubby Jesse." How’s that going?
Besides the big awful fat pictures of me all over your site? Seriously, stop it! (laughs) It’s weird. I think Peeler alone has given me a body complex singlehandedly. But whatever. You know, as you age, your body’s metabolism goes down and you can’t burn food off as fast as you used to. So, I’m sort of getting used to my new metabolism.
OZ: And also, you're not a fat guy.
No, I’m not.

Jesse, I'd really like to see you hook up with someone soon. What is your type? So glad you and Doug made up. I don't think he meant to be malicious. I know what you mean this society puts us in either the Fem or Butch box. Love you, keep up the good work.

Jesse, I have to tell you, I must have watched that episode with the dialogue between you and Doug over and over. Like yourself, I came out at 15. I have supportive parents. I overcame a weight problem as a result of being gay, lonely and in high school - and became a fitness instructor and trainer as well. However...
I had no idea that I was 'fat' until I ended up in Minneapolis, the midwest's answer to L.A. I think that gay men can be terribly mean to each other in terms of how we look, because it's the only weakness they can go after. Who else can we attack besides each other? I would like to talk with you about that because I think that this body image issue is a serious thing for gay men - I went to very extreme mesaures to try to be 'one of them' for a long time and then it dawned on me - I wasn't going to live long by starving myself, taking diet pills, hating myself because I hated my body - what kind of friends were these if this is what I had to do to keep them? It took me at least 8 years to really understand that. I also had to leave the gayborhood and get away from cities that had a lot of gay men. I think that we are natuarally too competitive with each other and that in itself is toxic.
Because of our courage and our passion for life we are great people. Remember that. You display a passion for life on that show that people are going to remember, and I hope they see that in themselves - and THAT is the positive 'gay role model' you will leave with that show.

jesse, i too am of the mindset that butch is better. but you were spot on with the argument that you raised during cocktails with doug and the rest. i had never thought about it in the way you verbalized. we as a community, need to work as one. there is already far too much ugliness in the world in which we live. carry on my friend. you are awesome.

Am I really the only one that thinks Jesse is acting like a big whiney baby this season? How old is he? Hasn't he passed the age where you get jealous if your best friend is dating someone and didn't tell you about it right away? I thought that was high school stuff. My mom always told me when I was younger, "don't go around with your feelings stuck on your sleeve," which I always took to mean, "Don't take everything so personally and act like a baby."
That's good advice for Jesse as well.

I'm hooked on your show! Being a gay man, out since I was 17, I understand the fem/butch stigma.
It always seems we come together for a common cause, but, in social areas we differ....
You hit the nail on the head, Jesse. You can't be anymore gay if you you have been dating/sleeping with someone of the same sex regardless of what one calls themselves, "straight-acting", etc...
Someone told me, "Everyone is a 'queen'. It's not the manner, it's in the delivery". I'm staying tuned.
