Whether you’re looking to add a piece of sparkle to your new summer wardrobe, or hoping to mask the fact that your spring jacket is now making it’s fourth consecutive comeback, complement them with some wicked summer accessories. From sunglasses to man bags, necklaces to visors, there are plenty of pieces out there that can help give your outfit that extra little nudge from ho-hum to knockout.

I myself stick to a few favorites that I’ve had for the past few seasons, and then slowly start to recycle the lot as the outfit sees fit. Ever since my ex-boyfriend gave me my newest love, a superb Dolce & Gabbana wristwatch, I’ve been hooked. Bold, clean and chic, it’s understated enough to go with a suit and tie, but stylish enough to make even a pair of jeans and t-shirt look pulled together.

Though I must admit, I do envy my friend James -- a freelance fashion character who is capable of pulling the most obscure objects from his closet and make them work. Case in point: The eye-patch that he declared was his “newest summer accessory”, or the black metallic cummerbund that he even wore while making new bear friends at a random biker bar in Brooklyn.

(Side story: You know you’ve been in Chelsea too long when … James was visiting the Empire State Building, and was stunned and appalled when asked by the staff member directing traffic flow whether he was an “Upper or a Downer.” … As in “Are you taking the elevator up or down?” I loved it!)

A hot pair of sunglasses is a definite necessity for any gay man. Again, I would suggest finding a pair that complements your face shape and hairstyle, and gives you that distinctive look, over simply wearing the hot new trend. I find aviators look great on almost everyone, but small details like lens proportion, color and frame finishes can really make or break your look. A throwback trend to look for this summer is square plastic frames, white in particular -- a touch of 60s mod with an updated edge. Adam Kimmel makes an ingenious pair of collapsible pair frames that not only look hot as hell, but also alleviate the problematic issue of bending/scratching while not on your face. Also, if you’re in the mood to indulge yourself or your favorite boy-toy, DIOR Homme has the most gorgeous pair with chrome detailing (modeled here by my friend, the uber-gorgeous Anna).

I would like to add something to your list...HATS!! I really enjoy wearing fly hats in the summer. It compliments an outfit and helps block out the sun. There are so many styles around from the J-Lo big hat slanted to the side, the flower pot hat,or the smaller colored knit caps. I'm also old school so I might roc' a kango ahhahaha Anyway! you get the picture. Love the blog keep it comin'

you and I share intensly similar opinions reguarding flip-flops. Hate them, think the world would be a better place without them.

Hey Daniel Vosavic, okay, I have no idea if you're ever going to even read this, but i just wanted to say that i'm a colossal fan of yours. Loved you on Project Runway. And from one gay michign-raised fashion-designer to another, your my hero :x Anyways, I agree with mostly everything you've stated... Accessories make the outfit. But, oh god, I actually like flip-flops... if they're not totally gross, and sort of stylish, i can stand them. I own a pair I got from h&m that i love. They're sort of converse-esque, and really cute...

Mark wrote:

First of all. I'm a BIG FAN of yours and I love you to death! ha. Okay, with that out of the way...

I've been feenin for a new pair of slick shades to sport. I've been looking at so many frames and I know what works. I'm partial to aviators myself and you are totally right about the proportion, tint, etc. I get so picky...you know...the gay kind of picky. ha.

I'm relying on favorites too but I just want something that has style rather than trendiness. gah. I can't decide.

Oh, flip flops are totally a Southern Cali kind of thing.

Love your work. Love your article.

I look forward to your future entries.

I agree completely with the flip flop stand. Too many men think they are just at the top of the stud list with them! I manage a sporting goods store (gay mans dream job) and so many come in with them and want to try on shoes. What are they thinking! Anyway, great job on here and happy to have the website. Good luck in your career.

hey danny!! i think u are absolutely right about the sandal thing!! i even hate that word -sandal. ugh!!! it juss makes me love u more and more everyday!!!

Dear Daniel:
The fact that you won 5 or 6 times clearly more than anyone else there, I felt as though you were the one I would have chosen. I have kids from ages 14 to 29 boys and girls and all of them chose you. Keep going because Your clothes are the ones we want to look for to wear. Best Regards, JoAnna Selle

mmmm....dislike feet? I can understand it, but personally I'd like to know if someone has nice, well groomed feet rather than gnarly toes and talons before being surprised later.

and the sweater with the open back, it was kinda greenish, i would wear that as is without the blazer i thought it was so cute and unique. good luck!

i also agree with diane they over do sandals in cali especially at school its like come on now im trying to learn lol.

Gabby wrote:

Daniel...i know exactly what you mean about the whole flip flop deal...i recently got a pair of black flats that i have been dying for for a while and have been wearing them everywhere! i cant seem to ever go back to flip flops and there is just something i guess not very "sanitary" about feet..but i dont think flip flops are something one can knock...they are just too easy and accessible to wear over the summer (cheap as well)
as far as sunglasses go i am so into the aviators right now, im actually hoping to get a pair of tom ford's...
anyways, i just wanna let you know that i am also going into my 2nd yr at FIT and you were definitely amazing on the show, i know just about everyone i know was glued to the tv just as much as i was every wednesday
good luck with everything!

i wonder if daniel really reads these [[ponders]]
the internet sucks in that sense.

As everyone has mentioned on here and is now becoming somewhat cliche (and almost expect from everyone on here), I too enjoyed your designs and watching you on PR2. As for your summer tips, I agree with most, but the flip-flops. As a person who absolutely hates wearing shoes (okay, so I was raised in the South, get over it), the flip flops allow me to have minimal shoes on my feet while still having shoes on my feet. My one rule about flip-flops is they must the the solid black, completely plain, cheapest you can find at target, most basic flip-flops every, and one must wear them as such. Otherwise, I am gone now to buy me a tie and a new pair of sunglasses.

Hiram wrote:

Oh, Daniel, great ties & for years I told people those awful hiking sandals should be banished-- and the men who wear them-- you are so right.

Alyssa wrote:

Oh my god, no. You completely dodged the worst of the worst - SOCKS and sandals. AHHHH!!

Kate wrote:

I will compleatly agree with the "feet rant".

I myself have experienced all the same feelings towards exposef feet, even on women. Feet flip floping around , getting dirty on the city streets , sweating and smelling on the subway or at a coffee house. I simply cannot stand it. It's repulsive.

Both the ladies and gentlement should not wear cheap flat flipflop sandals ( see Havana's flip flops for a prime example) in the city , it's too dirty and dangerous. I remember back when i was in highschool there was an anti-flipflop rule due to a large amount of injuries in bussy crowded halls. The same thing aplies in the city.
I loose hope when i see a woman sporting flipflops around bussy city streets while her feet get dusty , dirty and risk getting trampled or exposed to all kinds of harsh things (broken glass is a good example).

Sandals and flip flops especialy should only be used casualy and as college shower shoes. Maybe your children run around with them in the back yard. That's also fine.
However , they are not acceptable in a high traffic (city streets), or high class (gallery) , or food related place (coffee shops , restaurants).

It's gross.

But atleast i am happy to know that there are other footphobes out there.

Mike(y) wrote:

You know, I feel you on the flip-flop thing--I hate feet and I hate having to see the disgusting toes of my less-than-hygenic male friends.
However, I have developed an ever-growing disdane for shoes and socks in general. I wear my AE flipflops almost exclusively now. I guess that's hypocritical of me, but I really do try to keep my feet from looking, you know, disgusting.
Also, this blog reminded me that I need new sunglasses. Thank you for that.

And just for the record: you're amazing.

I found my most favorite summer accessory online. Though they were not the most current pair they are by far the coolest Marc Jacobs sunglasses ever! there turquoise!! Daniel I hope you continue to do well and I loved all the outfits you designed. I hope to look at parsons, F.I.T, and Pratt soon to try and make it in the fashion world as well! maybe you could give me some tips!

Drew wrote:

I doubt you get tired of hearing this, so I'll just be another to say: You're absolutaly adorable. You were the main reason I started watching Project Runway ;-p. Anyway, you said something about man bags but never really elaborated...there's an extremely cute Louis Vuitton beach bag that I want desperately, but I don't want to OVERfag it...that's just not my style...so would that be something to just avoid?

I am a 65 year old woman who watched Project runway for the first time last year. My daughter, granddaughter and a few of her friends all watched the finale together. Wow ,we were soooo disapointed when you didn't win. My granddaughter was on her cell phone with a half a dozen friends bemoaing the decision. (Still don't understand the judges) but we are very fond of you and wish you the best of luck in life.

You rock.
You're an awesome designer!
(And I'll admit, when I started watching
Season 2, I didn't pay much attention to
your designs because I was too busy staring
at you...Hey, I made a rhyme!)
And though I liked Chloe a bit, you should've
won Project Runway.I could see my self wearing
pretty much all of your designs, and if I wasn't so poor, I'd track you down and have you make me a prom dress.
I Love your blogs, you seem sooo...cool and fashion-like.
That's it.

Hi David!!!
I'm here just to say that I watched the whole 'Project Runaway 2' and you were by far the most talented designer... And I hated the fact of that Santino made to the final and I also couldn't believe that the judges eliminated Andreas... That could be a real good final for the show...

Carry on Dave...

Well I was hoping next time you come and visit Lowell that you have a fashion show down at the River Boat on main st. or even at our highschool! Everyone wants to meet you down there and I really want to meet you and get your autograph so please think about it and email me back! If you do say yes I most likely can get our principle to let you show some of your clothes at our school but it probably will have to be like after school but anyway email me back about it!!! my email is hottydog4090@aim.com!!!
