A Crush and the Fledgling

August 30, 2006

You know those days when you wake up and you just don’t feel good? I’m not trying to be deep or philosophical, I’m talking plain ol’ vanity here. Fat, unfashionable, unmotivated, bad-hair day, nothing to wear … you know those mornings. Well, here I was checking to see if my newest blog was posted here on OUTzone, and to my surprise I see a message for me from the OUTzone boys on the front page: “Psst, Daniel … Jesse has a crush on you.”

Well, damn! What’s a boy to do but blush! Jesse, thanks for the love, hot stuff, it couldn’t have hit me on a better day! I mean c’mon, you’re a personal trainer AND a chef -- I know at least 20 guys right off the top of my head that would kill to have you in their lives.

Fall Fashion Fix

August 04, 2006

With the temperature breaking the one hundred degree mark more than once this week, my main objective in NYC has simply been to Stay Alive!

Seriously.

For anyone who has had to endure standing in a subway station waiting for a train to come in this stifling heat and stagnant air will attest to the overwhelming urge to simply throw yourself onto the track to end the torture. I realize that may not be the wisest alternative, and instead usually choose to wander through the hundreds of air-conditioned palaces around the city known as RETAIL STORES! (dah dah DAH!)

It still surprises me how soon retailers begin placing fall/winter merchandise on the floor. From Bloomingdales to H&M, the racks of colorful Ts and tanks compete with wool pea coats and winter suiting. This week, while wandering aimlessly through the mish-mosh of summer and winter goods, it got me daydreaming about my favorite season just around the corner. The season that allows you to layer like no other, enjoy the outdoors without either freezing or sweating your butt off, and is always jam-packed with SALES…. I love the fall! Now there is plenty to deal with considering what designers are giving us for Fall 2006, but here are a few of my favorite trends to look for whether you’re doing your shopping at Barney’s … or the local mall.

Blogging and Michael Kors

August 02, 2006

I have to share that I was ecstatic to read that one of my favorite producers from Project Runway, now has his own weekly blog. Who is this no-name wonder you ask? Michael Rucker, my friends. And he is a fox.

You see, during the taping of the show, producers and crew were adamant about not “crossing the line” (you must say this as you vigorously wave your hand in front of you from side to side -- drawing the proverbial boundary) between us, the people being watched, and them, the people doing the watching. Well, after 32,783 hours of taping, no outside interaction, and your own sanity at stake, you begin to care less and less if they actually respond back and just continue to swipe their hands in front of your face; it’s just someone new to talk to! The days and weeks would go by and Michael would sashay into the workroom, looking like a combination of the elusive Hot Gay Nerd and the cute boy next door, with that “I just spent 30 minutes getting ready to make it look like I just rolled out of bed” look -- you know the type. Well, try as I may, the man never wore down. Not once did he respond to my sexual advances (He’s straight), my questions of what the next challenge would be (He’s professional) or my come hither eyes (He’s straight).… Geez, Michael, like a little over the sweater action would’ve killed you!

Needless to say he is a great guy (as is ALL of the crew and producers), and I thought since only a few people have responded to his little, lonely blogs thus far, you should all click over and give him some of the overwhelming love and support you’ve shown me! Besides, for you fanatics it’s even more of that behind-the-scenes dirt that you so ravenously crave.

(Oh, and Michael, since you and big Bravo exec Mr. Andy Cohen seem to have started a little blog war without me, I just wanted to say that that’s fine. Yes I’m a little hurt I wasn’t included, but that’s fine. It’s not like you’ve ignored my feelings before… but you Andy! I thought we were friends! Maybe Tim and I will start one without either of you two then, how would you feel about that?)

Also (not like this blog could get any more random), I wanted to clear up some confusion surrounding myself, my career and the path I’ve chosen to follow. Whether you’ve heard or not, I’ve opted to postpone launching my own line, in lieu of gaining a few years of experience under another designer. I feel that the experience and knowledge I would gain would not only be beneficial to me as a designer, but as a future business owner as well, and I eagerly look forward to working with a creative team of people on a much larger scale than I’m used to.

Now this is where people ask me “So, why aren’t you working with Michael Kors then?”
