You know those nights that you really don’t want to end? The kind where you hate looking at your watch, you actually stop checking your phone and you even ignore the “How’s the date going?!” text messages from all your 'mos sitting at home wanting to know some dirty gossip about your night?
Well … I just had one of those.
My boyfriend Kieran and I went for a nonchalant walk in Central Park a few nights ago -- actually, wait. I’m not doing this story justice, by any means. Before I continue further let me paint you all a picture.
New York in the fall is by far the best time to see the city, and with a crisp breeze blowing lightly -- and the very beginning of orange and yellow starting to take over the park’s foliage -- it truly can become a tranquil break from the imposing feeling of skyscrapers towering over your head everyday.
You have hundreds of worker bees getting in their daily jog after a long day at the office, some experienced runners, others just beginning. The whirl and buzz of taxis and those ridiculous, tourist-trap, bicycle “rickshaws” whizzing past, with the occasional shout of “You wanna ride?” overheard as they expertly maneuver around you.
The sun is setting a deep purple/red/smoky orange and the image that surrounds you in 360 degrees is that of full, billowing trees, a fragmented skyline of steel and glass and then the most gorgeous, colorful sky you can imagine.…

You wrote something truly vivid that it summoned my sleeping memories of autumn in Central Park--so bewitching. I used to go there with the love of my life as well before he perished. Now that my home is San Francisco, and although now I say that I left my heart in San Francisco whenever I'm away, there's a special place for New York City in my heart. Thank you for sharing the NY magic. Coy

Well, as it turned out, I appreciated them too much.
And they repayed me by breaking my scales.
So damn the little things & bring on the cake!

Hi Daniel,
I know you can't marry my daughter however thanks so much for responding....I was so excited that you answered my email!! Anyway...I just love you. I'm a 57 year old mom to daughters Kelly (21)and Casey (19) and came out to SF from NJ at 25 after hearing my brain say "go west young woman, go west". Within 1 week I met my best friend, a young 24 yr old fella, just coming out, who moved to SF from Scranton, Pa. I have learned so much from Owen over the years and the best times were spent at his place having dinner parties with all his friends (gay and straight)...drives up thru Napa Valley on wine tours....and skiing jaunts in Tahoe. We never stopped laughing... and the love, compassion, honesty, acceptance and tolerance I learned from him has been the greatest gift of all. He is my daughters God-father. While in SF in the early 80's he entered the priesthood and was ordained....the ceremony and celebration were unforgettable....we all had a blast. Owen is Owen, a child of God, a human being...as we all are. I could care less what a person's orientation is....its what's inside that counts. What kind a heart you have...how much we give. I love your stories...keep it up and don't ever change...you are perfect the way you are.

i have to tell you that i love reading your blogs. this one and the others are all very sincere and heartwarming. Its funny because this date you speak of, i also had one: same time, same place. i was visiting colleges in manhatten in september and i had enough time to visit my long distance boyfriend for about an hour before we drove home. We walked to central park on monday (sept. 25) and i saw you on a park bench with your boyfriend. i realized it was you after we had passed you and i didn't want to bother you by stoping and freaking out (since i'm a huge fan of you and project runway...) so i kept my excitement to myself. we walked to this lake and stayed there watching the sunset for about an hour. like you said, central park is beautiful in fall and at sunset. i was so grateful to spend such a lovely yet short time with one i adore and i'm glad you had as great a time as i did. take care and good luck with your fashion career, maybe i'll meet you at bryant park someday! (i want to be a designer so badly!) =]

I also like observing small things. It makes you wonder and reflect on life just by looking at them and makes you enjoy life just by appreciating them. Enjoy! By the way, we Filipinos who live in Manila do not have such a beautiful park in the middle of a buzzling city, but I still love the city, it is often misjudged. You should visit the Philippines someday, it would be my privelege to show you the real Manila and the famous hospitality Filipinos can give. See ya.
