Why is it that I’m already exhausted from an overdose of holiday parties, and Christmas and New Years haven’t even happened yet?
On top of last week’s usual hectic workweek, I had my own work party to attend (by the way, I’m designing for this great new label, read more about it on www.bravotv.com!) my boyfriend Kieran’s work party, but also a slew of holiday shindigs hosted by some of New York’s finest … including our very own Andy Cohen. In fact, I’m writing this blog just after arriving back from a party thrown by my neighbor four floors down, you won’t believe the spread they prepared!
So in case you haven’t read, I’m now head designer at a budding design company called Raven, it’s a great place with some amazing opportunities ahead and I can’t be more thankful or ecstatic for this to have worked out the way it has. Anyways, we had our holiday work party at this great steakhouse called Old Homestead down in the meatpacking district, a perfect place for gnawing on a 20 lb piece of cow. Needless to say it wasn’t the best place to bring a vegetarian, which Kieran is, but I told him that he MUST come and play “best boyfriend ever” so my bosses would fall in love with him and thus love me even more.
So you know how we gays love to make over our ladies? Well, last week I got to do just that.
My mother came to visit me in New York, accompanied by her neighbor and good friend Tina, as well as Tina’s daughter Kelsey. Let me preface this by saying that Kelsey has just recently turned 16 and though I’ve known this girl for the last few years of my life as a sweet but seemingly shy girl, I have yet to see her break fully out of her shell. A tomboy at heart, she has amazing eyes and a great build but with no thanks to stringy hair, hunched shoulders and a lack of eye contact, she rarely made a strong presence, despite her 6 foot frame.
Yes, you heard me correctly, I said 6 feet … and only 16 years old.
You can imagine my fashion-heart breaking when I heard of the tribulations the poor girl endured when shopping for hip clothes to fit her lengthy limbs: shortened lengths, sale racks in the menswear department and athletic sneakers as an only option!
Gasp!
Ugghh … I don’t know about you all but my stomach is still aching from the Thanksgiving feast we devoured last week – last month!
All the traditional dishes were of course included: turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and every pie you can imagine, it was divine! Also, if you recall from last week, I mentioned that Kieran and I were going to be hosting about 20 of our friends to celebrate the holiday at his apt. Well, after more than a couple bottles of wine and a good tuck-in at the dining room table, we pushed aside all the furniture to lie around, watch movies and play board games … reminiscent of those wonderful sleepovers we used to have as kids: the fun, the mischief, the complete sense of contentment
… Wait … I’m getting ferklempt just thinking about it…

Well, aside from the food, I was of course was paying attention to the fashion, and my friends certainly didn’t disappoint. I saw trends being played out from 2 years ago, and some that haven’t yet hit the mainstream, conventional stripes paired with reversible jeans from Three As Four, high-waisted wide-leg sailor pants from Marc Jacobs that made Jordan’s ass look amazing, and a gorgeous, long plush sweater that the incomparable Syd so effortlessly pulled off -- it was a fashion extravaganza!
