We all like to help out where and when we can, don’t we? And if I can do that by going on a full day shopping spree, trolling down some of NYC’s hippest streets on a gorgeous afternoon, spending someone else’s money on great clothes??? Then I am so in! Well thanks to a great charity that’s exactly how I spent my Saturday a few weeks ago ... and oh what a day it was.
I was contacted by Denise Rich and the G&P Foundation for Cancer Research, an organization that was created in 1996 by Denise Rich in memory of her daughter Gabrielle Rich Aouad, who passed away at the age of 27 after a long and valiant struggle with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML). The foundation is the product of Gabrielle's wish; that a foundation be created to help spare others the suffering that she endured. They were hoping that I would be able to contribute something of mine for the cause, and of course, I couldn’t refuse.
I must admit that I thought that the Golden Globe Awards this year were a bit of a bore. Thank goodness for TIVO because I don’t think I could’ve sat through that entire thing without it. Yes, of course it started off strong with the ever so humble acceptance speech by the talented powerhouse Jennifer Hudson (what an amazing year already!) but without the dry humor of Meryl Streep, the sincerity of America Ferrara and the down-right dirty potty humor of Sasha Baron Cohen, I don’t know what would’ve kept me awake.
I know that the Globes are known for being more relaxed than other awards shows like the Academy Awards or the Grammy’s, but that aside, I wish I would’ve seen more fashion standouts from both genders. Some tried and failed, others played it safe and a handful were just downright mirror-less… talented as they may be it still helps to have a second set of eyes… and if there’s aren’t good, than a third, and so on and so on until you’ve got it!
Though there were but a few who I felt looked extraordinarily ravishing for the Golden Globes this year, my Personal Top Five (men and women) for the night would have to be:

5) Jennifer Hudson: This girl either has a great stylist or an amazing eye because she looks ever the movie-star part in this navy v-neck Vera Wang gown with short sleeves.
If you happened to catch a blog of mine from October on www.bravotv.com, discussing the planning and execution of my best friend’s surprise birthday party in the park, you’d know that the next one on the b-day list was my good friend Mike. So if you read about the amount of layers and planning that went into Anna’s birthday, you know that the gauntlet had been laid and my group of friends and myself had a lot to live up to.
Let it be known that Mike was turning 25 yrs old, teaches 9th grade math at an international school, is a loyal friend and great boyfriend (to the adorable Ali), and is simultaneously working on his masters degree. Needless to say the boy needed a break – and we intended on giving it to him!

I simply can NOT believe that it is January 2007 already. I simply can’t. It’s that simple: I am a quarter of a century old and life is over as we know it!
Ok ok, it’s not that bad, besides I did get a week of work off and got to spend some much needed quality time with my family and friends. True to tradition, I headed home to my parent’s house in Michigan for Christmas; where else can you curl up by a cozy fire, watch the snow fall, and hit the slopes on a blustery winter day? Well, apparently somewhere else, because I did none of that. It was around 50 degrees my entire trip! Granted, I was extremely happy that I didn’t have to shovel a single sidewalk, scrape not even one windshield or trudge through a mountain of slush in an overcrowded parking lot, but it would’ve been nice to wake up to a light dusting… maybe next year.
