Eggsactly. That's what I thought.

Well, now that we are all coming off our turkey high and ridding ourselves of the Tryptophan fairy, it’s back to the TC2 crew for a dysfunctional Beach Blanket Bingo (sans Frankie and Annette).

But before we hit the sand, time to make it through a non-fired Quickfire Challenge with the Chef from Jiraffe in Santa Monica. We start the show by hearing some of the contestants boast about being "a force" and being "on a roll." I think that people are starting to build confidence now that numbers are dwindling, although not fast enough based on several of the comments from you TC bloggers, myself included.

Let’s move things along and eliminate three in one episode and get down to business. I think that by starting with 15 contestants it has made it difficult to really get attached to the contestants and figure out who they are as people.

C’est la vie, and moving onwards to Mike’s watermelon mess: watermelon and smoked salmon or salmon jerky is not really giving me hunger pangs. Marcel’s dish looks good as always along with Betty, Cliff and Ilan’s. Frank does a great job here and the dish sounded like one of the one’s that I would actually like to try out of the group. Elia comes through with a good dish but lacking flavor, Mia gets her hand slapped for not using some of the beautiful product.

And Marcel wins with flavor and presentation combined.

my, my, my, how soon we forget. who was it that totally freaked out last season in vegas due to the pressure and didn't do a third dish? huh? don't differentiate yourself from michael and disparage him for forgetting to bring eggs. as you WELL know, high pressure situations lend themselves to cause contestants to forget things and act in ways they normally would not. c'mon man. before you start belittling others, think about where you were this time last season and how you felt, especially crying after every episode. puh-lease. get over it.

This challenge on the beach seemed bogus to me. Where would a chef need to prepare a meal on the beach unless he worked on the beach.
Withouit telling the chefs upfront Frank was certainly put back when the meal he planned was deep sixed by the cooking techniques involved.
As in a previous episode where cheating was very apparent and Betty given a second chance so should Frank.

If you'd been on as many corporate junkets as I have you'd tat this can and does happen.

Boo, Dave. You of all people know that under pressure things get forgotten.

bored, bored, bored!!That is how I feel about TC2!This episode topped the cake. I can honestly say that I have not stayed awake through one episode yet. Thank god Bravo replays these episodes over, and over, and over again. Was in NYC this past monday, wish you were open. went to TAO instead. Hope you dont make people with reservations wait to be seated till an hour after therir reservations. Thanks for your real observations!

nervous jitters aside
i think the real question here is
what Top Chef would burn the eggs ( Frank )
or the bagel ( Sam )
talk about adding too much or not enough S&P
this one has to be in the top 10 of
Chef RULES
as much as i still think Mike is the weakest link here, due to his performance
one of those 2 needed to go

I think Mike forgot the eggs because he had to get up at 3 a.m. with little to no sleep and get ready. I know the others didn't forget anything, but if it were me (who is not a morning person at all), if I had to prepare breakfast at 3 a.m., I'd be a mess, too. I'd probably fall asleep by the warm fire of the fire pit.

At least it was nice to see that others chipped in and gave Mike some eggs!

what do you think is the biggest one thing setting apart the chef and crew from TC1 and this season? I don't know, but I can't seem to really get any enthusiasm for one particular chef. At least last season, I was cheering for a few of the chefs in there sweating it out, trying their best, giving it their all.............. the blonde wasn't one of them.

If you are being criticized for coming down on Michael and feeling bad about it, don't. Many viewers are wondering why Bravo is keeping Michael on the show. Otto goes home for supposed ly "stealing" lychees which were not even for his dish, but it was ok for Michael to use money designated for the competition to buy imported beer for his personal consumption in lieu of a necessary ingredient, cheese. He made a mockery of the vending machine quickfire by using the f-word and then sticking a cheeto in a snickers bar which to me looked like a finger emerging from a pile of doo-doo and giving the Bird. Frank threatens Marcel and he is gone the next episode. Mike, in the waiting room, threatens to punch Judge Colicchio out while using all sorts of profanity again, and no penalty. If you want to come down on Michael, no chef is more deserving of a bad editorial. By the way, there are a few of us that realize that editing can make viewers believe the best and the worst among the chefs.

OK, I am still watching Season one on the Food Network, and tonights Las Vegas Challenge when Dave got eliminated was disgusting! A complete ratings grab. Dave one 1/3 and came damn close to 2/3. Dave was obviously better than Tiffany - who cooks for herself only - obviously because no one else seems to vote for it! Dave was awesome, and was not at all an "underdog" for the competition. Whereever he opens his restaurant let me know, as I will take a trip from the prairies of Canada to sample it!!!

Dave! I miss you! You have some rather petty bloggers here. Regarding Season 2, you have more talent in your pinky than 3/4's of those "chefs". Had you not botched the last quick fire in season 1 you would've give the winner quite a run for the money. He always did lack flavor! Good luck with your ventures in NY!

Dear Dave ! Dec 13th .We just last night got to see the show between the last three and WE dont agree at all with the judgement passed you did win 1 quick fire round and Tiffany didnt win 1 .we love the show top chief but that was just so wrong it should of been a show off with you and harold .we cant wait to see the final show .anyways Dave you made need tissue's by your side but you are very much the top chief ,best of luck in your future endures and dont stop cooking ! Sammantha and Tim from We from canada Eh Too !

This season of Top Chef can not compare to Season 1. I wish everyone would get off the Mike bashing. I think he is uncomfortable with all the competition, the other chef's around him and the way that he compensates for it is to act goofy. I think you are right Dave about the progressional judging. It is apparent to me that they already know who they would like the Top Chef to be. Keep up the good work Dave!

I love this season. Everybody is so different but still cocky, it's funny. So much of what they produce looks and sounds so good. And how GREAT is Mia!!!! OMG she's my hero of this season. I know everybody thinks Marcel is an arrogant a$$ but I haven't really seen it. My favorites are Sam and Ilan. Ilan is just so so sexy...just something about him and he's a great creative chef as well.

I loved Season One of Top Chef, but was so disappointed by the ending. You were eliminated by Chef Colicchio on some lame technicality simply because he personally disliked you and your cooking style. What had been a great show for me was ruined by that decision, when you had actually won 2/3's of the events. I was a fan of Harold's but Tifanny did not deserve to be in the final, and I lost a lot of respect for the show and never watched the finale, because it was so cheapened. Good luck in whatever you do! Chef Colicchio sucks!

Brian wrote:

I guess I would just remind everyone that the chefs were warned that there would be limitations on their ability to prepare their dishes. As I watched them shop I was wondering why Frank would pick something with such specific equipment demands.

Still, once the whole picture was known he was somehow supposed to come up with a breakfast given only a skillet, an open flame, a bunch of eggs and plenty of other ingredients! Give me a break. If that was a problem for him, he should probably not be so "adventurous" with his initial ideas.

Shokaste wrote:

Hang on, what chef would burn the bagel? Theyre not toasting it, he was putting it on top of a fire grill. Even one second on it couldve burned the bagel jesus, what was he to do, give them untoasted bagels? Like Michaels famous cheetos with peanut whatevers? Ode to the ingrediant? I hate how everyone beats up on Sam because he makes ONE small mistake and HUGE GLARING atrocities get Michael, Elia and MArcel sympathies. Lets forget about how Marcel cant cook anythign other than gelees but lets beat up on Sam and Cliff for being mean and burning bagels.
