I’m baaaackkk. Finally, I’m like the energizer bunny and I keep going and going and apologies for being so behind in this blog but with my schedule and my weekly Top Chef blog, it’s been tough.
"Top Chef: Season One" has been off the air since May (except for the reruns) and I’ve got to tell you something: my life just keeps getting better and better. More and more people are tracking me down offering me good jobs, bringing me in to cater for them as well as several paid personal appearances.
I am soooo fortunate and I need to again say, “THANK YOU” to all of my friends and family who have always believed in me as well as my newfound friends, fans that have rallied in support of all my efforts and me. I’m actually starting to believe more and more in myself each day and I tell you what it’s a good thing and I recommend it to all of you. It’s been a long road, but I am truly starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel. I think that things just might end up working out for me in 2007 and maybe some day soon I will be able to shed the title of ‘welfare celebrity’.
But there is still a lot more work ahead in order to get to where I want to be and I am up for it. So, what’s up you ask?
Time for me to share and spill the beans.
I’ve just had a crazy week in one of my favorite places, New York City. I rolled out on a Sunday night on a redeye from LAX to JFK and right into the welcoming arms of Ms. Lee Anne Wong. She was kind enough to let me crash at her pad for the week and even take part in some rainbow cuddling with her J. It was an action packed week starting with a fantastic dinner with Katie Lee on Monday night. We had some killer Italian food at one of her favorite haunts (Ballato’s).

Way to go Dave!!! You'd hinted about Lola's before but it's nice to hear the whole story (more or less...). Glad to hear that good things DO happen to good people! And how cool is it that TC1 folks are hanging out with TC2 and PR folks as well. And that both you & Harold are restauranting in NYC! If I should ever get back to NYC in the near future, I will certainly look up both of you. (I live an hour from Chicago & been going thru cancer stuff, so I'm just regaining some semblance of health, but I'm poorer than a church mouse; ergo, it'll be some time before I can afford any big trips! Sigh...) But, nice to read your notes & look forward to 'hearing' more from you. Thanks!

This is not news... You mentioned in an early blog that you met with TC1 friends for the TC2 premiere. (Or did you do that again?) Also, you have been plugging the LOLA restaurant (& an unusable website) for weeks. What on earth are "Gospel Brunches? Is that when the kitchen staff break out into religious song for the diners? Or are ministers brought in to lead prayers prior to service? I am just wondering how that will go over in the offbeat, bohemian mecca of SoHo. It sounds more appropriate to the Midwest Red States...

Irma,
Dave's doing well for himself, don't put him down! I happen to live in Illinois, a pretty blue state (a yankee state, if you will) and here in Chicago the gospel brunch is a popular thing. It's basically chance to eat great food with soul and listen to live gospel music. Folks in SoHo will love it--they'll think it's quaint. I'm not religious, but I enjoyed it. It's a blast, you need to see one for yourself. Don't be so hateful.

Hey Ladies,
(Mocking people's names is also spiteful and without merit. What is so great about "Kate"? It does rhyme with hate.) In any event, no diss was intended... I was only asking a question of Dave - because I had never heard the term "gospel brunch" before, okay?
btw: Dave is not a child that needs your protection. He is a 40 year old adult.

Dave, Top Chef has been airing in Canada this fall and I just saw the final episode tonight.
I have to say that you were my favourite of the entire cast and you really are the chef whose food I wished I could taste each episode. Congrats on the new job and I really hope that I can make it sometime to NYC to sample your menu.
To get a taste of your food, I'd happily be your bitch. ;-)

Dave... so happy for you. You were my favorite on the show. I lived in New York and know you will be very happy there. I'm leaving CA as well for DC very soon and will make a point of stopping by your restaurant when I'm settled and make my way to the Big Apple to see some great theatre. All the best. You're a great chef and deserve this... enjoy!!!

The more I see the season 2 team, the more I miis guys like you! I really hope you show up in season 2 - yours became a family affair where my 10 year old got to say bitch for the first time. She suggested a showdown with Tiff and Marcel! But noone brought all the raw talent along with such heart and soul as you! The Lazarus girls really miss you and hope to hear how we might chance a meeting in NYC???

Ok, I'm new this season to Top Chef and I've loved watching it. I can't comment about comparisons between this season and last. What I can comment about is the level of restraint the chefs are showing in not giving Marcel a good smack! Creative chef, absolutely, but he is also comes across as an immature, smug, self-absorbed little snot! If he wins, I'll never watch the program again! Character should count for something, after all, wasn't a chef sent home for loading something into the car that had not been paid for? He didn't hide it, the cashier missed it. Why do they tolerate Marcel aggitating and harassing Bettc? He's lucky she's more mature - and his hair!!!! Need I say more?

I love Dave! I miss all the chefs from last season! This season's contestants are terrible! I can cook better than all of them. They are sloppy, not creative, and make alot of mistakes compared to the first season contestants!
.......and Padma may know food, but she does not know how to dress! Will someone at Bravo get her a stylist! Maybe Carson could help! She appears exotic til the camera pans down onto what she is wearing, then we realize she is nothing more than "trailor trash" or rather like some dish that Marcell has invented: It sounds good, but when you see it, it's really baloney! This season is so boring! Too much fighting and not enough about food, cooking skill. and creativity, like the first season. Please raise the bar back to first season!
