Driven to Distraction

I have dreams and goals and stuff to do around the house. These are the things this week that kept me from getting to any of it.

Hey Paula: Episode 2

“I’m tired of people not treating me like the gift that I am.” – Paula Abdul

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have our T-shirt quote. I’ve been waiting for the definitive Paula quote to put on a T-shirt and now, I have it. Fire up the iron.

I also can’t wait to use that line in my daily life. I think we all should. The next time a friend asks why you look so defeated say, “I’m tired of people not treating me like the gift that I am.” It’ll cheer you both up.

Episode 2 of “Hey Paula” features the illustrious American Idol satellite tour that we enjoyed so much on YouTube back in January. But first, we have to get through a trip to a perfume laboratory as well as a coffee run that I like to call Starbucks Visit of the Damned.

Before we really get into the episode, I want to go on record as saying I’m not crazy about the opening credit visuals for Hey Paula. They’re not nearly as nifty as the animated credits of Kathy Griffin: My Life of the D List. I think Paula knows this and it keeps her up at night.

But then again what doesn’t? After just two episodes, whenever I think of Paula Abdul now I think of sleep deprivation. When Paula says, “I’m already exhausted,” in episode 2, it’s like, ‘Haven’t we already been through the Paula’s running on empty storyline?’ Or is every episode going to have that story line? Maybe the title “Hey Paula” doesn’t refer to an old pop song, but it’s what you say when you’re trying to keep Paula from passing out. And it’s punctuated by some handclaps, like, “Hey Paula! (Clap Clap).”

Actually, I think you should have a t shirt made that says, "Did I tell you I have a boyfriend named John Michael? Well, I do."

Evidently Paula has not heard about "regifting".

I saw a part of one episode ... and it concluded with her saying "... but I've been walking around on these all day. Who else can say that?" or something ... and then showing us her heels.

Yes, they were tall, but guess what. Women wear them. Lots of them. And some men too. After seven minutes, the martyr game had already grown weary.
