So ... a new year packed tight with new resolutions, right? How is everyone doing with that? I think I broke about half of my resolutions by the 2nd -- but those were just the throw away ones anyway. No harm, no foul, right?
Well, since I have been given my own blog, I will assume that it gives me the right to stand on a soap box from time to time. Now please don't think that I feel, in any way, like I know more than anyone else, nor do I want you to think that I feel as though anyone should listen to me if they don't want to.
With that out of the way, here are a few suggestions that may help make this year a bit more... bright?
1. Call your parents and grandparents and find out what their views on life are. I just had the greatest trip home for the holidays. I brought a camcorder with me and sat my grandparents down and ask them just that. "What's life all about ... and what advice do you have for future generations?"
Man, the wealth of knowledge that they have. The advice that stuck with me the most (and I admit it's because I am a hopeless romantic and just met a great guy) was about relationships. They have been married something crazy- like 56 years, and they admit, it ain't always pretty, and you often want to walk away, but if you base your relationships in love, and are willing to stick with it no matter what, then the results are historic. I love you Grandma and Grandpa!
2. Donate something, anything to a charitable cause. I find that the more you give, just to give, the more you get back. I know it sounds like a bumper sticker, but it's totally true. If you don't believe me then try it out and see for yourself. For the record: the same applies in the bedroom.
3. Make new friends, but keep the old; one is silver but the others gold. "Can I get a what-what?"
4. Sing Karaoke, and sing it with all your flippin' soul. There is a very therapeutic element to being silly. I have found that one of the greatest tools one can have in life is the ability to laugh at ones self. I practice this daily ... and for some reason the universe keeps giving me opportunity after opportunity to keep this practice strong.
5. Get your STD screening done at least once a year. If you're out there like a true playa' playing the game, you gotta play by the rules.
6. YouTube, "Natalie Portman raps"-- this is a clip from her SNL appearance. Laughter is healthy, and this shit will make you LAUGH. Also recommended, Justin Timberlake's "Dick in a Box"... Golden.
7. Watch "WorkOut" when the second season premieres. Uhm ... Because I just like working, so help a brother out, ok?
I don't think that was inappropriate at all! I would love to hear from ya'll, so leave some comments. Much love to everyone this new year!
Peace and Blessings, xxx, Jesse.

Hi Jesse,
Love the write-up, and yes, will definitely watch WorkOut if it ever reaches my shore here in Africa (well, i'll be here for the next two years, after that, i dont know where im gonna be but definitely in one of the continents of the world). Got a question though, if you dont mind me asking, what would you tell me to do if i want to increase like 22lbs? I lost about 10lbs over the festive period. Im ectomorphic with this stats, 5'7" and 122lbs. I just wanna have a toned body rather than muscular and all. I really appreciate your reply on this. Thank you.
p.s. gasp!!! i cant believe someone beat me to this.. (i guess i do have a life after all)..

Jesse, i love your blogs, and i always can relate because as a single gay man i am a hopless romantic aswell and i laugh out loud to some of your cute little comments. I have been single for a while because at college, Cal Poly SLO, the gay community is very small. you give me hope that there are guys out there that are attractive sweet personal and seems to be faithful. Just thought i would try to pull through with one of my new years resolution by not holding back. have a great one.
