The Popular Kids

vday_jesse_320x240.jpgI believe my first kiss was at my twelfth birthday party. I was in the sixth grade and was so sick of everyone calling me fairy that I knew I had to take some action and kiss a girl so that the gay rumors would stop.

Looking back, I have to laugh because I don't think that many sixth graders in Renton, Washington actually knew what gay was- but many of my peers suspected that I was in fact gay- whatever it meant.

Her name was Kristi Jackson. We grew up in the same neighborhood and both ran in a very popular crowd- you see I was student council president and she had smoked a cigarette once, so this made for a very prominent duo. I am not sure how or why it happened, but all I remember is going to town with Kristi Jackson in front of a group of our peers.

It was one of those terribly horrible wet and sticky kisses that went on for faaaar too long- I think we performed what we thought a french kiss should look like.

It's sad that it wasn't sweeter- like one of those cute pecks you see in the g-rated love stories- no sir, not in Renton, Wa- we just go for the gold and slip in the tongue. I get chills just thinking about it today.

Happy Valentine's Day! xxx, Jesse

Happy Valentine's Day to you too!

Growing up can be so cruel sometimes.

I too have a 'sammy' although mine is a 5 year old little boy - my adopted son!

And we live in your neck of the woods - Valley Glen.

Have A Good One!

Happy Valentine's day Jesse!!! Well, how was my first kiss? I'ts somewhat funny because nobody in my family knows I'm gay... so one day I invited my boyfriend to my house, because my parents where out of the city, and it was the first time he came to my house and the first time we had a moment for ourselves, with nobody around, so he just entered the house hugged me and putted his mouth in a kissing position but, because it was my first kiss, I was like "mmm.....not now" and, as I could, slipped through his arms and went running to the kitchen, when he got to where I was he was all ashamed, as me, and just said to me "ok, sorry, whenever you're ready", so I felt bad for him and I said "Well, I'm ready" and we kissed like for 10 seconds and I began laughing and laughing and couldn't stop laughing, "I don't know how to kiss" I told him, and he just said "Well, you kiss too well for your first time, it was great", and I was like awww... It was so cool...

It's so unfortunate that for so many gay men, their first kiss is from a girl. I would love to think back to that first kiss as something sweet, innocent and memorable between two nervous yet excited young boys. No, I kissed a girl in a somewhat socially forced situation. Whoopdeedoo! There goes that memory. Lol.

P.S. Jesse! What happened to you? Why aren't you on the next season of Work Out? Come back to the light!

Jesse...stumbled across your blog through a Brokeback Mtn forum via a blog on Heath Ledger. Anyways...loved reading about your first kiss. I have many memories of hanging out in Renton, WA during the mid/late 80s and dancing all night at Encore (god, I think that was the name). I grew up around Coal Creek, but have since moved south to Portland. :-)

I very much enjoyed your story about you first kiss but mine hapened a little different!! I've always known I was homosexual, and I'm also a very confident person, so i was completely out by the time I was in 7th grade. My town wasn't that accepting of gays in the community, but what town is?? So, i had been seeing this boy for about a week and a half in 8th grade and he told me after school one day how in love he was, but I, already knowing that it was way too early in the relationship for love, didn't say anything. He asked me if I loved him and I said not yet. He became so angry and distraught that he grabbed me by the arm and pulled me up close to him in the middle of the quad (middle ground between classes) and kissed me so softly that I got weak in the knees and completely forgot where I was! When I "came-to" (about 5 seconds later) I realized that everyone had stopped and was staring at us, even a teacher. So I calmly picked up my things and walked into my next class, but I could hear people outside screaming fagot and other gay references at me and him. I wasn't going to let them see me cry though. It actually made me a lot more confident in return. I saw him later on that day because he came to my house and appologized to me for embarassing me infront of all my peers, but I told him that I really could care less about them and that he was my first kiss. I was in love with him now because he had risked his reputation and mine because he felt so strongly for me.

Hey Jesse, I wonder if you heard the rumor about people from Renton always getting sucked back in or never leaving at all?
Well it's good to see that you've made a happy life for yourself in another state, I myself chose Ireland but just happen to be visiting family here in Renton right now!
My first kiss was at a lookout point by Nelson middle school but I waited until I was 17!
Cute story and I love your show!
