Darlings! Chin-Chin and welcome to my new show. It has been an amazing journey since I came to New York, and my time after Runway 3. Time that I am so excited to share with all of you.

Before I moved to NYC, my boyish modeling photos started to circulate in New York and people started showing interest, so I packed up my things and went to NYC.I remember my first day in New York. Being in line at the Calvin Klein Building, standing next to Alec Wek and her beautiful orange angora sweater (sorry -- photographic memory), waiting for that casting ... I was so excited -- my first NYC casting and it was for Versus. I had wanted so badly to come to NYC to model. I thought it was vital that I be as thin as possible. For some reason I thought it made me look better in pictures. So for some time I ate cabbage and tuna fish and danced and excercized for four hours a day. I lost 25kg (55 pounds).

I was so thin I looked nothing like my pictures in my portfolio. I walked into the casting and my hair was too long and I was too thin. I made myself lose all this weight thinking it would help me but I did not get cast. It was then I realized I did not have to be so thin to model. I think I had the wrong idea in my own mind of what I had to look like to be successful as a male model. I discovered all the great restaurants in NYC -- OMG there is only so many cabbage preparations one can eat. I then started to perform again. I started performing after that, and after numerous performing jobs, I finally found myself in fashion once again. I miss my photography. That was great fun.
Wow, those photos of my first fashion show; that picture of my Muse Bronwen and my dear friend Christine and Mai Lee in those deconstructed garments that showed far too much skin. I look back and realize, "Wow -- what was I thinking?" Darlings! The Zeigfeld Follies closed in 1929!

I remember my time at Barneys, meeting Simon Doonan, Julie Gilhart, and Bonnie Preston. I was so young and so impressed with the amazing environment that was full of great fashion. I really wanted to impress everyone with my knowledge of fashion, but it took me years to accept the fact that I was destined for something else. It gave me an opportunity to meet some amazing people though.

I had a twenty five inch waist then ... ouch! This is why in my casting of models each season I try to find girls that are healthy. I remember one season a model eating lettuce with a lemon at my show, and someone asked her what she was eating. She said dinner. I was sad to hear this.

Well darlings, welcome to a glimpse of my life. That store opening party was such great fun, with all of my new Project Runway friends. I miss them a lot.

Until next week ... do not forget to moisturize. Darlings, a toast to all of you.

Love,
Malan

What a brilliant day today! My walk-through at Bryant Park, meeting with David Evangelista who is creating the hair for my show. Then I had a conference call with the brilliant makup artist Margina Dennis, whose team will be creating their looks for my Bryant Park show with Make Up For Ever. I found myself rushing home to get some rest and I popped on Bravo. Darlings! Make Up For Ever was creating the looks for last night's Make Me A Supermodel.

I was first introduced to Make Up Forever when I first came to NYC as a model. I stocked my cabinets with the medium beige pan-stick foundation. It took five years off of my face. In an industry full of some amazing products, this is the best I have ever used. They have the most amazing colours and the line in Paris has colours you would never dream of -- including the white I used one Halloween to create the look of a geisha. It has been almost ten years and I am excited to see the looks they have created for the show tonight. I am also so excited for all of you to see the palette Margina has created for my show using this brilliant cosmetic line.

If you go to Makeupforever.com you will thank me for it. Darlings, I never leave the house without my clear Super Lip Gloss. I love to see it when good products are discovered by the world. So next time you see me on the red carpet looking younger then I am, remember my secret.

Love,
Malan

Darlings last night's "Project Runway" was brought to you by Levi's. I wish they had the Levi's Euro line in America -- it's so nice.

Do you remember the really great commercials that Simon Rex and the gospel choir were in for them in the '90s? I feel like dungarees are such a staple and a multi-billion dollar business around the world. It is nice to see what they did with the creations.

Ricky made a pretty dress. It was nice to see him win. Darlings, I hope he is not sad anymore. Fashion should make you happy or you should look for another career.

I loved Christian's jeans -- they were so sexy and so sleek. This boy is so talented. So this week the room got a little warm -- I have never seen Chris get so ruffled. Nor Christian. But I understand in that environment under those hours how one could end up being a little short, not in height darlings. In fuses.

Which leaves me -- sorry my mind is racing -- Victorya went home. I have to say, I am sad she is gone. I wish her great success in all she does.

I am so interested to see who is going to make it to Fashion Week. Will it be all seasoned vets or will a newbie make it in. I wonder this season because it does not seem to be about the raw talent this season. Darlings, I know who I want to be in the finals. Do you?

Darlings, I would love to see you there. I gave two tickets to Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS for my show and they are being auctioned on eBay.

Denim can be a hard fabric choice, especially when it is recycled denim. I loved Kit ... I mean Sweet P's outfit. Just kidding! That must have been a terrible feeling -- being called by the last out's name. I love that detail on her dress -- so cute and so slimming.

I still cannot get over Christian's trousers. They were so hot. I would look so sexy in them ... don't you think? I have been up for too many hours -- sorry.

Imagine one day if you were standing on that catwalk and you were just drained, nothing creative was coming to you, and you had a lot of denim to work with -- what would you do? Darlings, its two weeks away from Fashion Week. I am so nervous. The collection is gorgeous. I wish you could all come. I am so excited. The hair is being done by my dear friend David Evangelista and his Cornelia salon, and the makeup is by the brilliant Margina Dennis for Make up For Ever.

I am so grateful that we have shared this journey.

I send you tremendous love. By the way, did you see my new show on Bravotv.com?
Let me know what you think.

Click here to watch the exclusive sneak peek of "The Malan Show!"

Dear Malan, I have been invited to an opening of a friend's opera and i know I should wear a suit. I am, infortunately, a grad student and my suit is old and badly out of style. I have no money to buy a new one. What do I do?

The first thing I thought of when I saw this question was... I remember when I was younger having a moment like this. Here are some things you can do;

One -- do you have any other coordinates that might work with the Blazer? Like a trouser that is a bit more modern. I remember taking a blazer that was a little dated and adding a button hole sewing the seam allowance up the back and sides to make it more fitted. All night, I got nothing but compliments on a suit that was (earlier in the day) a total disaster. But not all of us can sew, so I recommend separates.

If you have an alternate trouser, you can pair it with the blazer. Perhaps a nice button down, a vest. Never wear a turtleneck with a blazer unless it is fresh and in shape and the dye is not faded. I would not recommend a tshirt under the blazer for the opera either. Due to our lifestyles, suiting has become so much about pieces. Remember whatever you do -- look crisp and fresh. It takes but a moment to press a garment, pull out your iron, darling and a little water to mist the fabric.

I hope this has been of help to you, style the look to your taste, there is no reason you should be uncomfortable at such an event. Just remember its the opera and not lunchtime at your favourite take away restaurant. Your friend will be so honoured that you took the time. Also do not forget to bathe, powder, shave and fluff, you never know when you might meet your next love, you always want to look and smell your best.

Cheers,
Malan Breton

It was a long night -- I was moved by one of the most brilliant movies I have seen in ages,
The Business of Being Born, produced by my new friend Ricki Lake, who is gorgeous. It was so touching and so beautiful. This is a movie everyone should see, especially new mothers-to-be. I had my driver stop by my office so I can check on the new collection we are preparing for my first Bryant Park showing this February and then came home for the second rerun of Runway. OMG a Prom dress challenge.

Darlings, I love that this is an opportunity for youth to feel glamourous. It is so fun to see them in Times Square in the summer. I loved the multi-tonal dress that Jillian designed -- it was gorgeous, and Sweet P's dress was so glamourous.

I was saddened that Kevin left.I surely thought he would make it to Fashion Week. I cannot believe that two of the best designers on the show were in the bottom two. Interesting!

OK, so you all have asked who my top favourites are for final three or four: Darlings, I really don't know because I have not had a chance to really see their aesthetic. It's hard to gauge when you are making clothes from edibles, or recycled clothing bits, or the other. I am not sure. I want to see Jillian there, Rami, and Christian, but then there is Kit and Sweet P. I don't know! Darlings! I will be as surprised as you when I see the collections at Fashion Week. I am still really surprised that Kevin is out.

Well I wish him great success. Anything is possible! Remember -- I was cut on the second episode, and this February I am presenting at Bryant Park for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Darlings, there is so much talent on this show -- just because someone has a bad day does not mean they are a bad designer.

I do love Project Runway. It is a place that new talent can be seen, a place where dreams come true for so many. Darlings, always remember any dream you have can come true.

Darlings , If I had the chance I would have started the episode a little differently. I think they should have all the models come out on a slip and slide covered in Hershey's chocolate syrup. Then Bring Steven back for a peanut butter cup eat off between him and Christian.

No really, back to the challenge...

I adore the chance to see challenges using new medians. Fabric is so tedious in fashion!!! Dont you think? I will say the contestants were so poised in their choices of sweet to use. I love that Jillian chose Licorice. Jillian and Rami were the most innovative. I love that Zac Posen is back, Zac is the Charles James of modern fashion.

Sadly Elisa left, even though she was so gracious!!! I am so intrigued at how powerful a person she must be to have survived what she has. I wish her great success in all she does. It is hard to be cut.

Okay I have to say it....

Jillian, is my new favourite... That corset tonight was sheer Mugler ala George Michael's Too Funky...video. Mugler was the first designer I ever met when I was 17, a man who understood innovation and the feminine form.

She has the classic sensibility and the brilliance of an old school designer. It's as if Edith Head were reincarnated in the modern world. Okay back to the show...

I found the final catwalk show to be lovely, and Kevin's ensemble was absolutely genius. That bodice was beautifully sewn and constructed...

Victorya's asymmetric ruffles confused me, I really have grown to like her aesthetic. I would have liked to see someone use a little more of the candy. I know they are trying so hard --everyone wants it so badly.

Darlings I am excited to see the Bryant park show...I have my favourites. I would love to be pleasantly surprised.

Until next week I send you big Hershey Kisses!!! I am craving Mole. If only there were a really good Mexican restaurant in NYC. Any suggestions?

Love,
Malan
Who will make it to fashion week, I know I will be there ;) will you?

Darlings! I have been so busy with holiday events, and we just launched a new handbag line, and an online store.I will sum this weeks episode up by using the three B's! Bitchy, Bawdy and Bold.

The episode started with, Ricky! Being so catty! Again! About the model selection. Darling I am wondering about "true colours" right now because the display level of taste in both areas last night was just not attractive. I found myself sympathising for Victorya but I did not enjoy that there was so much conflict. When you work in teams much like working in the structure of a fashion company you have to let your ego. and work together. The head designer will give you points of reference but there should be a relationship and not an ego driving that. That said, I will move on to happier things! No need to let the groll and miserable in today.

I love that the old trends are being re invisioned. I really enjoy Elisa and Sweet P they are both very endearing, sympathetic people, as was Chris. What I do not understand is why Chris was eliminated the shoulder pads were a little "Christmas at the Crawfords" but it was well sewn and fit the model properly.

I must say Christian, Jack and Kit created a beautiful cohesive collection. I also loved Jillian, Kevin, and Rami's collection. I personally do not wear those farming clothes! But they were well made and well proportioned.

Things are only getting hotter and darlings, why is everyone crying in the previews? This season is very different! I guess as it should be. I need a massage! I love Christian's quotes, that is how fashion should be executed playfully and full of joy. There are so many wonderfully talented people on this season, But where is the glamour? I miss you Laura!

The mere idea of Donna Karan judging the competition last night was sheer genius! Donna is one of the most brilliant business women and a great designer. I just wish she had been on my season. Well darlings until next week happy holidays! Have a look at my new handbag bag collection at www.malanbreton.org.
