This is basically my take on the highlights of the GLAAD Media Awards. So if you missed it, or you want to nod and gossip along with me on who was funny, hot or underwhelming. Read on.
Kathy Griffin’s mom does the Gay State of the Union. The gayest thing she’s ever done: a lot of shopping. Good abs are in. She would make out with Suzie Orman. Or at least have coffee with her. People love that.
I’ll admit that gay TV and media montage at the beginning gave me the chills.
I just hope The L Word doesn’t win for best drama series. Ugh. If there was ever a worse written show… Oh, good, it’s Brothers and Sisters. Oh there’s Rachel Griffiths and Sally Field!

Things we learned while watching Shear Genius last night:
The Oshun thinks it's deep. But just by saying that over and over again you begin to suspect that it might not be so deep.
This competition looks to be about 80 percent gay. That's just a rough estimate. What's yours?

There are two people from Dallas on the show! One of whom is straight out of Steel Magnolias. And Dee is from San Antonio. Texas represents in the quirky hairdressers competition!

Just to catch up quickly from last week: Jeff thought either God or the Universe was punishing him, although he never said for what. Could it possibly be for things like this?
Asking for the old, thicker bacon, cooked less crispy.
Ordering his latte by temperature and then acting like his tongue is a thermometer.
Requiring a certain number of each item in the fridge, label faced outward.
Asking his assistant to transfer his mints into another mint package.
Maybe.

Anyhow, onto this week. How cool is Zoila? She must have a heart of gold. The only one we like even close to as much as we like Zoila is that adorable, smash-faced cat. And this episode she gets the best lines (Zoila, not the cat):
I decided to go see Sex and the City by myself on a hot, New York City afternoon. I would probably have preferred to go see it with friends and recreate our own New York female friendship while watching. It would have been very meta. And comforting. But unfortunately, my friends scoffed at the idea. I wasn’t surprised at the lack of men (one, in a couple), although I would have thought there would have been a couple of gay dudes in attendance. I mean that is the accepted demographic: gay men and straight women, right? Another strange thing, the audience was far from white-washed. I was in Brooklyn after all but this seems like another departure from the ladies’ core audience. But most surprising was looking around and seeing quite a few obvious lesbians in the audience. I’m not trying to be stereotypical about lesbians or SATC fans, but it is a little weird.
So why the lesbians? Has Cynthia Nixon’s coming out dragged in a covert, lesbian fan-base? Or has there been a secret Sapphic fan base all along?
