Designing for Dudes

This episode is good for several reasons. Jeff Lewis is a guest judge with some snarky comments. Shazia finally goes home. They get tons of money and help to do their spaces. Eddy makes a few idiotic comments. But best of all, Wisit talks about his inner masculinity. Hee hee.

Wisit feels awful about Kerry’s elimination and thinks Shazia should have gone home instead. We agree on both counts. Everybody misses Big Daddy.

The challenge is to redesign bachelor pads in teams of three. They get $10,000 and will be doing lots of shopping. They’ll also get the services of painters, wallpaper hangers, seamstresses and carpenters.

Nathan’s going to flirt with the bachelor if he’s hot. Good idea.

Eddy, Natalie and Ondine get James the law student and decide to make him a design that is “pantry dropping chic.” They must repeat that phrase twenty times through this episode and it starts to get very annoying.

Nathan, Shazia and Preston get Eddy who has a million pairs of shoes and wants something simple, classic and conservative.

Andrea, Wisit and Theresa get Obi, a web producer who wants a modern feng shui look. They go with the term “masculine zen.”

Broken Mirrors

Seriously, kids, broken mirrors are pretty passe. Kudos to Kerry for at least keeping his mirrors whole. Speaking of which, we're devastated and heartbroken over his elimination. And we're still sad about Jennifer.

So for this episode, teams of two designers had to make window displays for some Runway alumni garments. This is cool, because we love Sweet P. Especially when she's like, "Girl power!" about her team.

Eddy's talking too much as usual. He's glad he's paired with Theresa so he can steamroll over her.

Daniel reads a poem to Preston and Andrea and is generally very sweet and zen.

Judgment Day

The challenge is to design a 12’x14’ room, shared with one other designer. But it's not just a small room, it's a fallout shelter. A room you might have to live in for the rest of your life. Duh, duh, duh.

This is awesome! We like the apocalyptic aspect of this challenge. But the only person who seems to get it is Natalie... but then she only sort of gets it, “The Chinese have built "the transformers" to bomb us back because they were pissed about the Hiroshima bomb.” Umm, Natalie. First of all it's not the Chinese, sweetheart. Second of all we had an argument about what she meant by "transformers". Some of us thought she meant nuclear reactors. And some of us thought she meant robots that can transform like in the movie with Shia LeBoeuf. Either way it doesn't make any sense, even as far as apocalypse fantasies go.

They get a $6000 budget per team. Why does that seem like so much? Seriously we watch HGTV all the time and 6,000 goes a long way.

We Love Kerry!

Top Design seems more interesting to us this season for some reason. But we can't quite put our finger on why... Anyhow, some of the decorators we love and some... we're not so into. Let's do a quick rundown of our initial thought on the designers.

Nathan – from NYC, so far we like him because he's sarcastic and cute

Ondine - decorated Sex and the City, seems cool

Shazia – at first we liked her because she said that what sets her apart is that she’s brown, which we thought was very funny and poignant simultaneously. But then she seemed really incompetent as the episode continued.

Kerry – that southern accent is adorable and he's adorable. Definitely our current fave.

Top Design!

For all of you who's hearts speed up at watching interior decorators compete, Top Design starts tomorrow. We already introduced you to Preston (man cleavage), but what we didn't know was that Ricky Schroeder's wife is also on the show! Silver Spoons! Come on! There's some design inspiration right there, a train in the house. There's also an opera singer, someone who did the sets on Sex and The City and Martha Stewart soldier.
